Skillbound
Skillbound is a progression and combat overhaul for Minecraft 1.20.1 using Fabric. It adds persistent level 1–99 skills, RPG-style combat formulas, Slayer assignments, spells, prayers, equipment requirements, new resources, bosses, and dedicated progression interfaces.
Instead of immediately having access to every item and activity, players earn XP by gathering, crafting, fighting, and exploring. Increasing a skill unlocks stronger equipment, recipes, abilities, enemies, and other content.
Skill progression
Each player has persistent skills that advance from level 1 to 99 using an RPG-style XP curve. Skill progress is saved with the player.
Skillbound provides:
- A dedicated skills interface
- XP drops and level-up feedback
- Equipment and action requirements
- Recipe and gathering requirements
- Skill-specific progression menus
- Character profiles and progression records
- Skillcapes for reaching major skill milestones
Reworked combat
Melee combat is divided into three independently trained skills:
- Attack improves accuracy.
- Strength increases damage.
- Defence reduces incoming damage.
Players can choose a combat style to control how combat XP is distributed. Custom hit splats, requirement messages, equipment tiers, potions, and enemy statistics make character progression visible during normal gameplay.
Slayer
Slayer provides structured combat assignments issued by Slayer masters. Complete assignments to build a streak and earn Slayer points.
The Slayer system includes:
- Multiple Slayer masters and task tiers
- Task streaks and point rewards
- Task skipping and block lists
- Permanent Slayer unlocks
- Superior enemy variants
- Slayer bosses and endgame encounters
- Collection logs and boss kill records
- Equipment and enemies gated by Slayer progression
Magic and glyphs
Skillbound introduces a progression-based magic system powered by glyphs and Runic Essence.
Players can:
- Mine Runic Essence
- Create glyphs at the Glyph Altar
- Unlock elemental and utility spells
- Cast spells through a dedicated spellbook
- Improve magical capabilities by training Magic
- Use new magical equipment and potions
Prayer
Prayer is a resource-based ability system with its own interface and progression.
It includes:
- Unlockable combat prayers
- Protection prayers
- Quick-prayer selection
- Prayer points that drain while abilities are active
- Prayer altars and restoration items
- Prayer and super-prayer potions
- Additional high-level prayer unlocks
Resources and equipment
The mod expands gathering and crafting with new progression tiers, including:
- New ores and Runic Essence
- New bars and processing recipes
- Weapons, armor, tools, bows, and arrows
- Level requirements for equipment and crafting
- Combat and skill-enhancing potions
- New altars, blocks, materials, and reward items
These systems are connected: gathering resources, processing them, and using the resulting equipment may require different skills.
Interface and tracking
Skillbound includes interfaces and visual feedback for its major systems:
- Skills and character progression screens
- Spellbook and prayer book
- Slayer task and reward interfaces
- XP drops and custom hit splats
- Equipment requirement panels
- Collection and boss logs
- Character profile tools
Why install Skillbound?
Skillbound is intended for players who want long-term character progression rather than unrestricted access to Minecraft’s equipment and content. It gives gathering, crafting, and combat persistent goals while connecting them through a single RPG-style progression system.
The mod works especially well for survival playthroughs, RPG servers, long-term worlds, and players who enjoy developing specialized character builds.
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.20.1
- Fabric Loader 0.16.10 or newer
- Fabric API 0.92.2+1.20.1
- Java 17
EMI support is optional.
Skillbound contains both gameplay systems and client interfaces. For multiplayer, install the mod and Fabric API on the server and on every connecting player’s client.
Getting started
After entering a world:
- Open the Skillbound skills interface to review your levels.
- Perform normal activities such as mining, crafting, woodcutting, and combat to earn XP.
- Review equipment or action requirement messages when content is locked.
- Train the required skill to unlock stronger content.
- Use the Slayer, spellbook, and prayer interfaces as those systems become available.
Existing vanilla gameplay is changed by level and equipment requirements, so players should review their skills before beginning a progression-focused world.
Configuration
Skillbound uses data-driven configuration for XP pacing, progression requirements, world generation, spells, prayers, enemy statistics, and Slayer assignments. This allows pack and server creators to adjust its balance for their own progression experience.
