Overview
Snekcraft adds ball pythons and western hognose snakes with multiple color and pattern variants that can be obtained by breeding. Become a snake breeder and use your knowledge of snake genetics to make the prettiest snakes you can! They don't do much yet, but they sure are cute :)
Breeding
Snakes can be bred by feeding them raw chicken or rabbit, which will let them lay eggs if there is enough space around that hatch similarly to turtle eggs, albeit much quicker. Eggs will only hatch on sand or dirt, and won't retain genetics if picked up at the moment. Only the basic "wild type" color and pattern can be found in the wild; all other variants have to be obtained through breeding.
Genetics mechanics
A short explanation on how the genetics work. No need to get in-depth knowledge if you don't want to, experimenting and finding out what works yourself is half the fun anyway!
Only wild type snakes, aka "normals" will spawn in the wild. Breeding two normals together will usually result in more normals, but they have a small chance of producing a base gene to get you started. All genes are either dominant, codominant, or recessive. Dominant genes will always show if the snake has it. Recessive genes will only show if there are no dominant genes present. Codominant genes will combine with dominant or recessive genes to make something new, or show especially well if combined with another codominant gene. Snakes cannot be bred to be het for a gene (having a dominant gene and a recessive one that does not visually show but affects breeding) to reduce complexity, but all normals can be used as if they were het for base genes when bred to another base gene snake. Combine and breed to try and figure out what in-game genes are what, and what they can each combine to produce!
Note: Rainbow is its own thing. You'll only have the (small) chance to get one if you can breed the ultimate mish-mosh of genes!
Spawning Hognose snakes spawn in deserts, plains, sunflower plains, and meadows. Ball pythons spawn in plains and savannahs.
Additional items Also adds different terrariums to house your snakes (and other mobs) such as the wire cage, terrarium, aquarium and lavaquarium. Use the terrarium key to change the solidness of external walls of any of the types of terrariums (external non-solid walls will only be outlined when holding the key). Terrariums will work with different types of terrariums next to each other. Terrariums work better when at least 3x3x1. Make your snakes happy with different types of hides and a heat lamp! To place a hide or any decoration inside an enclosure, remove the enclosure block, place the hide, and toggle the surrounding walls off with the enclosure key. Snake bags can be used to pick up and transport snakes.
Snakes will occasionally drop shed skins which can be used to make snake bags or scutes, and fangs, which can be made into bone meal but may become more useful in future updates!
