Sniffer Rework
Sniffer Rework is a small Vanilla+ mod for Fabric that improves Sniffers, making them more useful and related to archaeology
What It Changes
Sniffer Rework increases Sniffer health and gives them slow passive regeneration, making them much less fragile than in vanilla since they tend to die a lot.
Sniffers can also be bred and healed using Torchflower Seeds, Pitcher Pods, Glow Berries, and Sweet Berries, making them easier to breed.
Adult Sniffers now have a chance to drop Moss Blocks when killed aswell.
Improved Digging
Sniffers now dig up 1–3 items at a time, with expanded loot tables that depend on their surroundings.
Alongside their usual Torchflower Seeds and Pitcher Pods, Sniffers can uncover additional items based on the biome, block, or structure they're digging in, alongside them being able to dig in sand and gravel to support more structures / biomes.
Archaeology
Sniffer Rework expands the connection between Sniffers and Minecraft's archaeology system.
When digging inside certain structures, Sniffers have a chance to uncover Pottery Sherds associated with that structure, alongside other buried items.
Some structures also have a very rare chance to produce their associated Music Discs, including Relic from Trail Ruins and Creator (Music Box) from Trial Chambers.
Biome & Block Loot
Sniffers can now discover different items depending on where they're digging.
Biomes like Jungles, Swamps, Lush Caves, Deserts, and Taigas have their own small loot pools containing appropriate plants and materials.
The block being dug also matters. Digging on Moss can uncover Azaleas, Moss Carpet, and Bone Meal, while Mud can produce Clay and other wetland-related items.
Sand and Gravel also have their own loot pools, giving Sniffers more variety when digging in different environments.
Version Differences
Sniffer Rework supports multiple Minecraft versions, with loot tables adjusted to include content available in each version.
Newer versions may include additional digging rewards from recently introduced biomes, structures, and items, while older versions retain the same core mechanics.
The goal is to keep the mod consistent across versions without adding items that don't exist in those versions.
Extra's
Sniffer Rework is not meant to completely overhaul Sniffers or introduce complicated new mechanics.
The mod adds no new items, blocks, or textures, instead building entirely on existing vanilla content.
Sniffers remain peaceful ancient creatures that dig up forgotten plants, but now they can also help players uncover buried treasures and explore the world in more interesting ways.
I plan to continue updating Sniffer Rework to new versions as they come out pretty quickly aswell :)
