Soups & Sandwiches
Vanilla food is a number. You hold right-click, the bar goes up, and that's the whole of it.
This mod is about the cooking. You cut ingredients on a board, simmer pots over a fire, and build sandwiches a layer at a time — and the game works out what you've made instead of checking it against a recipe list.

Sandwiches are built, not crafted
There is no crafting recipe for a BLT. You lay bacon, lettuce and tomato on a cutting board between two slices of bread, and the game tells you that's what you made.
Then it keeps up with you:
- Add cheese and it becomes a BLT with Cheese — and it feeds you more, because there's more in it
- Build the same thing on a sub roll and it's a BLT Sub
- Add bacon to a Cheeseburger and it stops being a Cheeseburger and becomes a Bacon Cheeseburger
Nothing is wasted and nothing is wrong. Put whatever you like between bread and you'll get something — it just might only be a Plain Sandwich.
There are 30 named sandwiches. Reuben, Croque Monsieur, Philly Cheesesteak, Club, Patty Melt, Ploughman's, Farmer's Breakfast, Chip Butty, Chicken Jeremy. You don't unlock them and you're never told to go and make one. You just make food, and sometimes it turns out to have a name.
Every dish knows its bread. Burgers go on buns, subs go on rolls. You can put a Reuben on a burger bun if you want. It just won't be a Reuben.

Sandwiches also look like what's in them. Two bands of colour are pulled from the actual fillings, so a grilled cheese and a Reuben don't share an icon, and toasting browns the bread.
Soups worth the fuel
Fill a Stock Pot with water, drop your ingredients in, and light something underneath. It only cooks while it's actually being heated, so a soup costs fuel and time rather than a click. You can see what's floating in there while it cooks.
Fifteen soups, from Tomato and Potato up to Beef Stew, Minestrone, Fisherman's Chowder and Chili con Carne. A few are worth going out of your way for:
| Dish | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Chicken Noodle Soup | Clears Poison and Hunger. The one you make for someone who isn't well. |
| Chili con Carne | Warms you through — powder snow can't freeze you |
| French Onion Soup | The cheese and crumbs make it sit with you twice as long |
| Miner's Stew | Beef, potato, cabbage and salt. Food that keeps you going underground. |
Leave a finished soup on the heat and it gets better for a minute or two. Leave it longer and you get Burnt Slop, which is exactly as good as it sounds.

A pantry worth raiding
102 items.:
- Ten new crops — tomato, lettuce, cucumber, cabbage, celery, bell pepper, chili, onion, garlic and corn
- Dairy from scratch — milk a cow into a glass bottle, churn it to cream, churn that to butter, curdle it for cheese, then age the cheese on a rack until it's worth eating
- Preserved things — beef jerky and prosciutto on the drying rack, pickles and sauerkraut in the jar, sun-dried tomatoes and dried chilies
- Condiments — ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise and hot sauce, all of which count toward what a sandwich is and what it feeds you
- Salt — mined from deposits underground, or left in the pan when you dry out a bottle of water
Six ways to cook
| Station | What it costs you |
|---|---|
| Cutting Board | A knife and your hands — three cuts, and most things give you something different depending on which you use |
| Stock Pot | Fuel and time |
| Churn | Attention. It doesn't tick. You stand there and work it. |
| Drying Rack | Nothing but time |
| Pickle Jar | Nothing but time |
| Cheese Rack | Nothing but time, and rather a lot of it |
Cut a porkchop one way for bacon and the other way for ham. Every station shows you what's inside it, so you can read a kitchen at a glance instead of breaking things open to check.

Eating well actually pays
Finish a real meal and you get Well Fed — your hunger drains more slowly for a while. Bigger meals last longer.
On top of that:
- Balanced Diet — eat something you haven't had recently and that meal stretches further
- Lunch Special — a bowl of soup followed by half a sandwich counts as one proper meal
Both reward cooking widely instead of finding one good dish and making it forever. Neither gives you a power the rest of the mod doesn't have.
A handful of dishes carry a real effect — Haste from a Miner's Sandwich, Night Vision from a Nightwatch, Fire Resistance from Spicy Chicken, Dolphin's Grace from a Fish Sandwich. They're situational utility, never combat power, which is why the great majority of the menu having no effect at all still earns its place.
The Menu
Right-click a cutting board with a book and you get The Menu: every soup and sandwich with its own pages, showing the method and where each ingredient comes from. It's built from the same recipe data the game runs on, so it can't tell you something that doesn't work.
