ARCHIVE STATUS: ACTIVE
The world remembers more than it should.
You are alone in your Minecraft world. That does not mean you are unobserved.
The Archivist is a fourth-wall-breaking psychological horror mod that pays attention to how you play. It turns habits into evidence, familiar places into sources of doubt, and ordinary moments into something difficult to explain.
It does not need to chase you. It only needs to keep watching.
Some effects extend beyond Minecraft and interact with your actual computer. Please read Before You Play before installing.
What the Archive Knows
-
Your habits. The Paranoia Engine responds to isolation, darkness, and exhaustion. Archival records may also reference the smaller things you do: where you place torches, how often you check your inventory, or how long you hesitate at the edge of a dark ravine.
-
Your surroundings. Hear mining in empty tunnels and footsteps where nobody should be. Watch torches go out without explanation. Even your bed may not offer the safety you expect.
-
Your movements. A Doppelganger may appear when you least expect it, silently mirroring your actions. Recognizing what it is does not make it any less unsettling.
-
Your records. Discover archival books while mining. Corrupted incident reports, specimen-numbered evidence, and clinical observations piece together an account of your world that you never agreed to write.
-
Your screen. Encounter messages you never typed, chat entries bearing your username, distorted interfaces, and simulated crash sequences. Not everything you see can be trusted.
-
Your attempts to escape. Switching to Creative or Spectator mode can trigger events that force you back into Survival. Level-4 server operators are exempt from these anti-escape punishments.
Beyond the Game Window
Some of The Archivist's horror effects are not confined to Minecraft.
The mod can incorporate your local time, operating-system information, and hardware details into its events. Its documented features also include opening windows outside the game and creating files on your desktop.
These are interactions with your actual computer, not merely visual effects inside Minecraft.
Published versions also describe events that can interfere with normal attempts to exit the game. The behavior and availability of these effects may vary between releases.
Read the startup consent screen carefully before proceeding. If you are uncomfortable with real system interactions or interference with normal game controls, this mod may not be suitable for you.
Before You Play
The Archivist is designed to unsettle you, but you should know what you are installing.
-
Content warning: Includes sudden loud sounds, jumpscares, disturbing messages, camera disturbances, interface distortions, and simulated crashes.
-
System interactions: Some events operate outside the Minecraft window. Do not assume that an unexpected operating-system message or warning is harmless simply because the mod is running.
-
Privacy: Certain effects may display personal information, including an IP address or Windows username. Be mindful of what appears on your screen, particularly when recording, streaming, or sharing screenshots.
-
For streamers: Use
/archivist safeipbefore broadcasting to enable the documented IP-hiding feature. Operator permissions have not been required since v1.2.0. This feature is not a guarantee that every other identifying detail will be hidden. -
First session: Consider starting in a separate test world. Back up any worlds you care about before playing.
