Crime and Punishment: A Soulbound Moral System
Crime and Punishment is an atmospheric gameplay overhaul that introduces a deep, mechanical "Guilt" system to Minecraft. This mod forces players to face the psychological and social consequences of senseless violence, turning every strike against the innocent into a heavy burden that affects combat, trade, and survival.
The Sin System
Senseless violence no longer goes unnoticed by the world. Taking the life of a Villager, a tamed pet, or a passive baby animal triggers an immediate state of Guilt.
The Haunting: Upon committing a crime, the player is struck with temporary Darkness and Nausea while a chilling monologue appears in the action bar.
The Timer: Guilt lasts for 72,000 ticks (one full hour of real-time play) and persists through death.
Acoustic Shift: When a crime is committed, global music is silenced to emphasize the gravity of the player's actions.
Chains of the Honorless
The physical manifestation of your sin, the Chains of the Honorless, are automatically added to your inventory upon committing a crime.
Soulbound Burden: These EPIC-rarity chains are fire-resistant and cannot be easily discarded.
Combat Debuffs: While held or equipped, the chains significantly reduce your Attack Damage, Attack Speed, and Max Health.
Anti-Utility: The weight of the chains makes it nearly impossible to mine or harvest blocks effectively.
The Social Exile
The world reacts to your "Honorless" status in real-time, making village life dangerous and expensive.
The Iron Judge: Naturally spawned Iron Golems can "sense" the chains. Unless you have the Bad Omen effect, they will attack you on sight.
The Guilt Tax: Villagers recognize your burden and will significantly inflate their prices. Expect to pay a heavy premium (at least 5 extra emeralds per trade) for all goods.
Mercy in War: If you approach a Golem while carrying the chains but also possessing a Bad Omen, the Golem will stand down, acknowledging that you are there to protect the village from a raid.
The Path to Redemption
There are only three ways to lift the weight of the chains:
Patience: Carry the burden for the full 72,000 ticks until the guilt naturally fades.
The Hero’s Path: Win a Raid and obtain the Hero of the Village effect. This immediately cleanses your soul and removes the chains.
The Cleric’s Indulgence: Visit a Village Cleric. These spiritual leaders offer a "cleansing" trade—exchanging 30 Gold Ingots to reduce your guilt by 2,000 ticks per transaction.
Once redeemed, the chains vanish, your experience is boosted, and you unlock a unique Challenge Advancement to mark your return to honor.
