Universal Block
Universal Block is a general-purpose blocking mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 Fabric, primarily designed to provide blocking mechanics for weapons and other configurable items.
Blocking does not rely on a fixed damage-reduction value. Instead, its effectiveness is calculated dynamically based on factors such as the item's properties, incoming damage, blocking direction, the player's current state, durability, and stamina.
Weaker attacks can be completely blocked, while attacks that exceed an item's defensive capabilities will gradually reduce its blocking effectiveness and may result in heavy durability loss, guard breaks, or even the destruction of the item.
The mod supports swords, tridents, and other items added through the in-game configuration system. It also includes blocking stamina, shared cooldowns, projectile handling, special damage rules, customizable blocking attributes, as well as the “Rock Solid” and “Sturdy” enchantments. Certain items and actions also have their own unique blocking rules, allowing different equipment to behave differently in actual combat.

• Dynamic blocking calculations instead of fixed damage reduction
• Blocking support for swords and tridents
• Support for additional items through the in-game configuration system
• Customizable blocking properties for different items
• Blocking stamina system
• Shared blocking cooldown
• Directional blocking
• Projectile blocking and deflection mechanics
• Special handling for certain types of damage
• Durability loss based on the strength of incoming attacks
• Guard-break mechanics when an item's defensive limits are exceeded
• Different blocking behavior for different types of equipment and items
• Unique blocking rules for certain items and actions
• Two blocking-related enchantments: “Rock Solid” and “Sturdy”
Dynamic Blocking
Universal Block is designed around a dynamic blocking system rather than a simple fixed percentage of damage reduction.
Not every item provides the same level of protection. The result of a block depends on both the strength of the incoming attack and the defensive properties of the item being used.
An item may be capable of completely blocking weaker attacks, but its effectiveness will decrease when facing attacks beyond what it can reasonably withstand. Extremely powerful attacks may cause significantly increased durability loss, break the player's guard, or even destroy the item being used to block.
This means that blocking is not simply an on/off form of protection. Equipment choice, durability, stamina, positioning, player status, and the strength of the incoming attack can all affect the final result.
Item Configuration
In addition to the items supported by default, Universal Block includes an in-game configuration system that allows other items to be given their own blocking properties.
Different items can therefore have different defensive capabilities and behave differently in actual combat instead of sharing one universal blocking value.
This allows players and modpack creators to configure additional weapons, tools, or other suitable items for use with the blocking system.
Combat and Projectiles
Blocking also interacts with projectiles and certain special forms of damage.
Projectile attacks can be handled differently from ordinary melee attacks, and some projectiles may be deflected when successfully blocked.
Certain damage sources, items, and combat situations have their own special blocking rules rather than relying entirely on the standard blocking calculation.
Enchantments
Universal Block includes two enchantments related to its blocking system:
• Rock Solid
• Sturdy
These enchantments interact with the mod's blocking mechanics and provide additional ways to improve the defensive performance of equipment.
