Unraveling Spells adds a magic learning system for Iron's Spells ‘n Spellbooks: the player needs to open schools and spells through the magic department using special scrolls.
The mod makes the progression of magic more meaningful: unexplored spells are hidden and inaccessible, learned ones work as usual. Choose the schools of magic that you want to study in the future. To study spells, you need to create a Magic lectern, put a Spell Scroll in it and study your first spell.
The main advantage of the mod is its extensive customization options. It’s primarily suited for people who create their own modpacks.
In the mod’s configuration files, you can adjust:
- the max. number of schools that can be learned;
- which spells are learned by default;
- how spell conflicts are handled;
- and other settings.
The mod requires Iron's Spells ‘n Spellbooks 3.15.0 or higher
With version 1.1.0, it is recommended to use the AnimLib mod for animations (only on 1.20.1)

Q: Is this mod compatible with addons?
A: Yes.
Q: When will the new version be released?
A: As soon as I have some free time for this project, I work on it. It all depends on how busy I am.
Q: Can I change the resources in the mod?
A: You can:
- Modify the mod resources
- Upload resource packs/data packs for the mod
It is forbidden to:
- Pass off mod-owned resources as your own to generate income from it
- Pass off the mod code as your own without permission
Q: How can I suggest an idea for a mod or report a bug I’ve found?
A: I don’t have my own personal Discord server yet! The main chat where I can provide any help with a bug/crash is the official ISS Discord. It contains a post about my mod. Please ask your question about the mod exclusively in the mod post!
Q: Why can’t I study more than 3 magical schools?
A: The mod has many configurations tailored to you or your modpack. Before playing with the mod, it is recommended to adjust the mod to your preferences.
Q: Why is your addon so similar to that one?
A: The mod in no way tries to imitate any particular addon, even if it’s similar in concept. The main idea behind my mod is convenience, a nice appearance, and flexibility for players and modpack creators. The mod was originally created for my personal modpack.
