Way Too Dark
Way Too Dark is a lightweight, client-side utility mod designed to bring genuine fear back to the night cycle and deep underground exploration. By entirely overriding how Minecraft processes local fog data and lightmaps, the mod creates an oppressive, inescapable void that completely blindfolds you unless you have a physical light source.
Instead of allowing players to bypass the horror of dark caves by abusing fullbright or editing settings files, Way Too Dark fixes the rendering pipeline at its core. If there isn't a physical block emitting light directly next to you, the world is an absolute void.
Features
-
The Two-Block Ceiling: The moment dusk hits, or you venture below sea level into unlit areas, your visual render distance is choked down to a hard 2-block radius. Beyond that tiny bubble sits a pitch-black abyss.
-
Anti-Fullbright Logic: This mod completely hijacks and neutralizes the vanilla gamma slider, fullbright resource packs, and external brightness hacks. If there isn't a light source next to you, it's pitch black.
-
Dynamic Lighting Support: Fully compatible out of the box with dynamic lighting frameworks (such as LambDynamicLights or Iris/Sodium lighting pipelines). Carrying a torch, lantern, or glowing item dynamically pushes back the void in real-time.
-
Dimension Safety: Automatically disables itself in the Nether and the End to preserve their native custom atmospheres and gameplay logic.
