Welcome to XMod Additions XL
This mod brings with it a series of improvements, addons, and features to the Vanilla Minecraft experience, including the revival of recipes that used to exist, imaginative new items and blocks to bring some added life and variety to existing areas, and even a whole new dimension! Think of it as a Vanilla+ expansion, rather than a mod with a core central theme. I've been working on it on and off for a couple of years, and I am rather pleased to finally publish it. I will not be explaining every minute detail, as I feel leaving some mystery is good fun, but I will be doing my best to explain everything that is needed to get a good experience out of this pack, with or without helper mods like JEI. So, without further ado, let's jump right in!
Blocks
Starting with the basics, let's talk about all the various blocks that have been added to the game. There's a lot to get through so I will try to categorize them into groups for discussion.
Wood Types
Here are all of the new wood types added to the game. All of them can be found in various new biomes and each has something unique about them. From left to right they are as follows:
- Rosetta. This dark-log pink-plank wood type is the most standard wood type added into the game. It can be found growing in the Cloud Tundra.
- Enlightened Timber. This saturated green wood type is another standard wood type found in the Ethereal Hills.
- Hardwood. This is a very odd wood type that has some unique recipes and block choices. It is found in the Spoopy Forests. Breaking it does not drop logs, but instead drops Hardwood Chunks, which can be used to craft the various Hardwood Planks recipes.
- Rotten Wood. This wood type speaks for itself, can only be found in the Deadlands, and is incapable of sustaining plants.
NOTE that all custom trees you see in this mod cannot be replanted, making the quantities of these new types a distinctly finite resource that must be explored for.

Terrain Blocks
With multiple new biomes in the mod, there comes with it a lot of new blocks to bring those biomes to life. 99% of these blocks cannot be crafted, barring some specific exceptions. There's a lot to cover, so I'll be brief:
Shale, Silt, Encrusted blocks, and Etherium

Function Blocks
Thse blocks that add various useful features and utilities to the world :)
Recycler The Recycler is a useful block that solves the problem of what to do with all of the junk clogging up your system. Normally the solution is to dump it into lava, but then that is quite a waste. Instead, this machine block allows for a very easy way to recycle them into... XP!
Firstly you want to be sure that the block is enabled, which is done by feeding it a Redstone signal. Then all you need to do is feed into it one of two categories of items via a hopper (or other direct inventory insertion block, depending on what other mods you are using). Those two categories are as follows:
- Stackable items, in a full x64 stack, will be recycled into XP nuggets.
- Non-stackable items will also be recycled into XP nuggets. NOTE that there is only a single inventory slot on the machine, so feed items into it with care. Also, items that stack to less than 64 will not be recyclable
Truss Block The Truss block is a simple utility block that is completely pass-through when unpowered, and a solid block when powered. This should allow for some useful redstone contraptions, and also some other uses...
Redstone Sand Redstone Sand does what it says on the tin: it's a gravity block that provides redstone power. It's weaker than most other redstone power sources, but it should still offer some utility in various contraptions.
Flint Wire* Flint Wire is a mostly-decorative block that hurts anything it touches.
Instant TNT Simply put TNT into a crafting grid to turn it into this variant. Light with extreme care
Message Alarm This simple block spits out a global message in chat when powered by redstone. Placing a block directly on top of it will label the message with that block, which should offer some customization and opportunities for unique mechanisms and contraptions.
Spikes Spikes are mostly-decorative blocks that hurt anything they touch. Spikes are affected by gravity, so they should be great fun to use.
Mining Explosive This strong explosive has a helpful delay with messages, so you can all be warned before you die :D
Sifters Sifters are a block that allows you to look through ordinary materials such as sand or gravel and recover small bits of useful resources. Different sifters offer different focuses and improvements. I won't spoil those; best to experiment instead hehe
As you can see, the blazing sifter (the most expensive one) requires a heat source for full functionality (Magma being used here). The Blazing Sifter also is made by upgrading the Diamond Sifter, not the regular Sifter.
Clear TNT This niche but handy block wipes the inventory of the closest player.
Hardwood Storage Drum This storage-compacting block allows you to store 54 slots of items (the same as a double chest) in a single block, with the downside being that there is no GUI menu to access the items from. Items must be funneled into and out of via hoppers or other direct-inventory-accessing blocks.
Condensed Light Condensed Light is the block that you will need to make to create the portal for the new dimension in this pack: The Ethereal Dimension. We'll discuss the dimension more later.
Plants
Adding vibrance to the world is always important, and the spices and garnishes of any good gaming dish are flora and fauna. To that end, let's talk about plants! There's a large variety of them, some with unique and special features. I won't talk about absolutely all of them here; just some highlights.
Pearlesco This is an End-based plant that spawns in some of the biomes (yes the End in vanilla Minecraft does have multiple distinct biomes; this mod hopes to add just a little variety to them). Be very careful when touching them. You have been warned...
Stickweed A plant typically found in several Overworld biomes, the Stickweed is a simple and cute plant with a unique utility to drop a stick as a random chance upon breaking it.
Ethereal Capsule A vessel with untold mysteries long-trapped, released only by breaking it to reveal it's contents. Not a "plant" per se, but it spawns inside of the Ethereal Dimension and can be a source of useful goodies... or unpleasant surprises...
Items
There's not a lot of additional items in the game; most additions have been made in an attempt to integrate existing blocks and features in new ways. However, there are still some interesting ones, so let's go through them:
Misc. Items
Normally this is at the end, but I'm weird so let's start here first! These are various items added to the game that are only here for very specific purposes or functions (mostly to assist with other block or items added by the mod). They are likely uninteresting on their own, though some do have unique uses that may prove helpful at times.
Ethereal Shards Can be eaten to regain 2 full hunger bars. Has a saturation level of 10. Can only be found in the Ethereal Dimension. It drops from Enriched Shale, is used to craft Etherium (recipe shown earlier), occasionally drops from the Ethereal Stray upon death, and can also be obtained from the Ethereal Stray by bartering with it for a few items (more on that in the Entities section). You can also obtain it from Sculk Sensors.
Dimension Orbs Dimension Orbs are items that are obtained and used to create Condensed Light blocks, which you need in order to enter the final dimension: Ethereal. Each one of them is obtained a different way, as shown below. The final orb, the Ethereal Orb, is only obtainable by chance after killing an Ethereal Golem.
Seedling Gun The Seedling Gun is a fast-firing weapon that does low damage but hits with great knockback. It's ammunition of choice is... seeds, of course. It will burn through them immensely, but hey -- we know you will have tons of them by the time you can make this weapon.
Moon Orb Drops from the Moonflower upon breaking it. It can be used to tame and breed the CloudPuff.
\
XP Gem & XP Nugget Drops from XP Ore. Can be crafted into XP Blocks (shown earlier) and also used to brew Bottles of Enchanting. XP Nuggets can be turned into XP Gems.
Killsword The Killsword or "/Kill" is a Creative-Only item that instantly despawns any entity hit with it. This should hopefully be a useful addition to your toolset
Glass Sword The Glass Sword is a sword that is made of glass. Duh. BUT, there is one unique thing about it: It is a potion sword. Yep, you can apply any of the vanilla level 1 potion effects to a Glass Sword and create a weapon with that effect. It's durability is very small (only 10 uses), but it basically gives you a potion effect you can weild. It should offer some very interesting combat options ;)
Ethereal Portal Igniter The item by which you ignite your portal to the Ethereal Dimension.
Flint Chopper A simple item that is cheap, hits slow and weak, but also has a nasty status effect. Great early-game weapon and also used to make the Glass Sword.
Glow Juice This is the only fluid in the game, which you can also put into a bucket. It pulls you in rather than pushes you away, and has an insane amount of buffs it provides you. It is only found in the Ethereal Dimension, as a direct fluid or encased within Glow Crystals.
Yoink This is a bit of a silly device. What it does is it takes an item at random from any of the slots in the hotbar of whomever you with with it. It's not particularly useful but it can be annoying to defend against and something to have fun with friends :)
Slapstick Another silly weapon, this is all knockback and no damage. A hassle to deal with, but otherwise nothing more. Use this to deeply annoy your friends (or other mobs).
Weapons, Armor, and Tools
These are the triditional Swords, Pickaxes, Shovels, Hoes, and Axes that you're all familiar with. Here you can see all of the new ones added to the game. All crafting recipes are "traditional" unless shown differently.
From left-to-right, the new weapon and tool sets are: Amethyst, Scale, Lapis, Redstone, Prismarine, Crystal
From left-to-right, the new armor sets are: Lapis, Emerald, Redstone, Crystal, Prismarine, Scale, Amethyst
Lapis Armor Made by combining Chain Armor and lapis in a crafting table. Very simple and inexpensive.
Emerald Armor Made by cutting each piece from an Emerald Block in a Stonecutter.
Redstone Armor Made by brewing redstone on Iron Armor.
Crystal Armor Made by smithing Glow Crystals with Diamond Armor.
Amethyst Armor Made with a unique crafting recipe for each piece. Also requires Leather Armor as a base.
Recipes
Here are some recipes that seek to either bring back old craftable items or make new recipes for previously-uncraftable items and blocks. Hopefully these additions will contribute to an enhanced gameplay experience :)
Leather Smelting
Water Bucket Juicing This recipe should work with pretty much all small flowers in Vanilla.
Craftable Flint (in two ways)
(Some) Mob Eggs
GOD Apples
Soul Sand / Soul Soil
End Portal Frames
Horse Armor
Name Tag
Chain Armor (Revised)
Craftable String
Copper Nuggets And yes, you can turn them back into Ingots.
Biomes And Dimensions
In the world of Minecraft, Biomes are the true spice of life. Most of the ones created for this mod were made for the new Dimension, Ethereal, but a couple still ended up in the Overworld as well.
Overworld
Deadlands This biome is made up of darkened, rough terrain. Filled with coarse dirt, mossy Cobblestone, Dripstone caves, Dungeons, and forests that rot away before your very eyes, it is not a nice place to be. Here is where you will also find the Dying Flower.
Spoopy Forests This biome is prety much what it sounds like. Trees made of Hardwood and cobwebs, the ground littereed with Wispyreed and Sticky Grass, eery particles wafting around -- even the sky a perpetual orange. Mycelium coats the landscape, with coarse dirt yet again making it's presence known. Here is where you might get lucky with gold and emerald, or unlucky if you happen across this place at night.
Ethereal
The penultimate dimension, the Ethereal plane is one of great reward and discovery. Contained within are unique creatures, fantastic treasures, and beautiful vistas. It also provides opportunities for new lovely decoration blocks that you cannot get anywhere else!
Creatures
In this mod there aren't a lot of new additions, and all of them can be found in the Ethereal Dimension. Let's take a look at each one\
Ethereal Golem This is the only hostile mob in the mod. This nasty guardian flies around the world, and sends you flying with a nasty ranged attack if he spots you. It has 100 Health and is equipped with strong armor and weapons. Good luck!
CloudPuff The most passive mob added, this cute little goon is a new companion for you. It likes Moon Orbs, which you can also use to breed it, and they will often congregate around Moonflowers. You can ride them, granting you no jump but quite a lot of speed, and you can also tame them. Easily distracted, afraid of conflict, and with only 10 Health, the CloudPuff is a friend best kept safe elsewhere (although do be aware that once tamed, they will follow you around for LIFE).
Ethereal Stray A passive mob whose function serves as the closest thing to a sentient life form, a master of strange transmutation abilities. With 250 health they aren't too easily slain, and they also have a passive to regenerate their health, but they won't hurt you. Right-clicking on them with the item you wish to offer in your main hand initiates the transmutation process. The available options are the following:
- Giving Amethyst Shards, Prismarine Shards, or Prismarine Crystals transmutates into Ethereal Shards (instant)
- Giving a Bucket of Glow Juice transmutates into a Glow Crystal (20 ticks)
- Giving a Nether Star transmutates into an End Crystal (100 ticks)
- Giving a Block of Coal transmutates into a Diamond (20 ticks)
- Giving a Heart of the Sea transmutates into a Beacon. (100 ticks)
- Giving a Dragon Egg transmutates into a Mob Spawner Cage (200 ticks)
