Castoreum: A yellow oil secreted from the castor sacs located above the anus of adult beavers. Beavers mix this secretion with their urine to mark their territory but the substance has become known for its vanilla-like scent which has made it an ingredient in many foods and fragrances.!

What is this pack?

Castoreum was originally a vanilla+ modpack I created for a private SMP server sometime before the release of Minecraft 1.16 in 2019. Over the years, I would release the modpack under multiple names, multiple modloaders, first on CurseForge and now for the first time on Modrinth. In this time many of the mods have changed but the philosophy has always stayed the same, although the beavers are relatively new:

This modpack seeks to improve the core Minecraft experience without losing the original feel of the game. Improves performance significantly, provides quality of life changes, visually and auditorily updates the game with new particles, textures, shader effects and sound effects. When available, I also like to add a cinema mod so you can watch videos in game with your friends (not currently available on 26.1). My general aim is to make the pack as pretty and immersive as possible while adding quality of life changes that don't feel like they lose the plot of Minecraft Survival Mode.

I designed this pack to be quickly updateable so that the pack can stay up to date with Minecraft updates. Due to this, mods often flow in and out of the modpack. I unfortunately cannot guarantee the continuation of any mod in this pack in future releases as its continuence depends on the speed of the lovely modders to keep their mods up to date with recent versions of Minecraft. In truth there are actually two mods this modpack waits for: Sodium and Iris, but this is almost never an issue. This modpack is also designed to be fully removable without harming your world, feel free to throw your old vanilla world into this and see if you like it or not.

• This modpack can and will get you banned on vanilla servers! Some of these mods are considered cheating by most servers' anticheats.
• This modpack uses the mod Euphoria Patches to specifically work with Complementary Shaders, if you're not using Complementary Shaders it is best to disable Euphoria Patches as well.
• If there are any changes I have made to the game that you do not appreciate you can probably turn it off. Almost everything can be turned off or configured through video settings, Mod Menu settings or at worst through config files in /config.
