Colombus: For the Queen
Explore farther. Settle new lands. Build the network that connects them.
Colombus: For the Queen is a Fabric exploration and multiplayer survival modpack built around one idea:
distance should matter.
The world is larger, more dramatic and less homogeneous. Resources are distributed unevenly, agriculture depends on local conditions, settlements can be thousands of blocks apart, and moving goods across the world becomes part of the game.
Instead of building one permanent base and obtaining everything around it, the pack encourages you to explore, establish distant colonies, specialize them, and connect them through transportation and trade.
π What kind of experience is it?
Colombus is designed primarily for long-lived survival worlds and small multiplayer servers.
It focuses on:
- long-distance exploration;
- remote settlements and colonies;
- regional resources;
- trade and logistics;
- transportation infrastructure;
- large-scale terrain and distant landmarks;
- lightweight survival mechanics;
- immersive atmosphere without turning Minecraft into a hardcore survival simulator.
The goal is not to become a kitchen-sink modpack.
Every major system is intended to reinforce exploration, settlement, transportation or the value of distance.
π§ Why explore?
The world is built to make expeditions worthwhile.
Tectonic and Terralith reshape the Overworld with large mountain ranges, continents, valleys, rivers and varied biomes, while Voxy allows distant terrain to remain visible far beyond Minecraft's normal render distance.
Structures are deliberately spread across the world rather than concentrated around the player.
Resources are also less uniform:
- ore deposits are regionalized;
- agricultural growth depends on climate;
- different environments provide different animals, plants and opportunities;
- distant settlements can therefore have genuinely different resources available to them.
Finding somewhere valuable is only the beginning.
You then need to decide how to use it, settle it and connect it.
ποΈ What do colonies actually do?
A settlement can become a mining base, farming region, industrial center, port, railway stop or simply a staging point for further exploration.
The custom Colombus Outposts & Colonies mod provides the logistical backbone of the pack.
Outposts allow distant settlements to:
- maintain shared storage;
- dispatch cargo shipments;
- track goods in transit;
- upgrade their logistical capacity;
- provide controlled fast travel between established locations.
Cargo still takes time to travel.
Players can travel instantly between Outposts, but route-based cooldowns prevent the network from replacing exploration entirely.
The intention is simple:
exploration discovers the world; infrastructure makes it usable.
π’ How do you travel?
Colombus is designed around a progression of transportation rather than unrestricted teleportation.
Depending on your infrastructure and destination, travel can involve:
- horses and improved mounts;
- carts;
- ships;
- rail infrastructure;
- established Outpost routes.
Long journeys remain meaningful, while developed regions gradually become easier to navigate.
This makes building roads, ports, railways and logistical hubs useful beyond aesthetics.
βοΈ Why trade resources between regions?
Colombus deliberately makes total local self-sufficiency less convenient.
Ore generation is regionalized, while crop growth is influenced by climate.
A settlement surrounded by excellent farmland may therefore lack important mineral deposits. A mining colony may have abundant metals but poor agricultural conditions.
This creates a natural reason to build specialized settlements and move resources between them.
The economy is not driven by artificial currencies or NPC menus.
It emerges from geography, scarcity and player infrastructure.
π¦οΈ Is it a hardcore survival pack?
No.
Survival systems exist to make expeditions require preparation, not constant micromanagement.
The pack currently expands survival with features such as:
- thirst and water management;
- climate-dependent plant growth;
- longer and reworked day cycles;
- improved food through Farmer's Delight;
- backpacks and expedition storage;
- player revival for multiplayer expeditions.
The intention is to make leaving civilization feel different from staying home without covering the HUD in survival meters.
πΊοΈ How does navigation work?
JourneyMap is integrated as the main expedition map.
Its configuration has been customized for Colombus with:
- an expedition-style visual theme;
- an aged sepia cartographic rendering;
- restrained map information;
- waypoints and map frontiers;
- multiplayer map pings;
- optional browser-based web mapping.
The map is intended to help document an explored world rather than replace exploration itself.
πΎ What about wildlife and atmosphere?
The world contains considerably more wildlife on land and at sea, including numerous biome-appropriate animals from the Animal Garden series.
Ambient sound, footsteps, environmental effects, flocking birds, herd behavior, improved entity animations and shader support are used to make travelling through the world feel alive without radically changing Minecraft's visual identity.
βοΈ What about performance?
Large worlds are central to Colombus, so the pack includes an extensive optimization stack.
Among other systems, the pack uses:
- Sodium;
- Lithium;
- C2ME;
- FerriteCore;
- ModernFix;
- ImmediatelyFast;
- Entity Culling;
- Voxy;
- Voxy World Gen;
- Dynamic FPS;
- BadOptimizations.
The objective is to support long-distance terrain visibility and large exploration worlds without making extreme hardware a requirement.
Performance will naturally depend on shaders, render distance, Voxy settings and server hardware.
