IMPORTANT
This modpack needs Java 25.
-
Modpack Settings > Sync overrides > Custom Java installation (enable) > Choose your Java 25 path. Why Java 25? The chunk mod Concurrent Chunk Management Engine requires it to function correctly. If you don't have Java 25 installed disable C2ME or install it: Modrinth Settings > Java installations > Java 25 location > Install recommended. Then copy Java 25 installation path and paste it at the modpack settings.
-
Also enable Custom Java arguments (Modpack Settings > Sync overrides > Custom Java arguments) and write this: -XX:+UseZGC Why the argument? By default Java uses the G1 garbage collector, which Distant Horizons flags with a warning about possible FPS stuttering. Switching to ZGC removes that warning and gives smoother performance at high render distances.
Purpose
This modpack was created to capture nature inside Minecraft. From the fauna wandering through the world to the most unique biomes you can explore. To achieve this, the pack combines a massive worldgen, extra wildlife and plant life, and dozens of small immersive details so every screenshot feels alive.
Camera mod: Exposure
This modpack's core immersive feature is Exposure, a full analog photography system. Load a film roll into the camera, look through the viewfinder to frame your shot. While looking through the viewfinder, sneak to adjust focal length, shutter speed, flash mode and composition guides. Once a roll is fully exposed, develop it and print your photographs. Polaroid support is included as an extension for quick, instant-style photos.
World generation
Terralith completely reworks Overworld biome generation, adding dozens of new biomes and landmarks, while Incendium and Nullscape do the same for the Nether and the End. Structures got a full overhaul too. The Yung's Better series redesigns dungeons, mineshafts, strongholds, ocean monuments and temples, Structory and Structory Towers add new ruins and towers to explore, and Tectonic makes mountains and cliffs feel dramatically more vertical and realistic.
Fauna and flora
The world is far from empty, Naturalist and Ecologics round out vanilla biomes with new critters, fish and small wildlife, while Critters and Companions adds even more tiny creatures and companions to keep you company. MoAnimals contributes a handful of new, detailed animals with their own behaviors and drops. On the plant side, [Let's Do] BloomingNature expands the overworld with richer plant life and handcrafted sub-biomes, adding small environmental details that make every region feel more alive.
Enhanced visuals and animations
Fresh Animations and FM: Player Extension overhaul vanilla mob and player animations from the ground up, making movement feel smoother and more natural. Subtle Effects and Visuality add small environmental touches, particles, weather details and little visual flourishes. That make the world feel more dynamic without getting in the way. Fabric Seasons brings changing seasons to the world, while Immersive Weathering adds slow, natural touches like moss growth, icicles and eroded stone that make the terrain feel like it's actually aging. On the water, Wakes adds realistic ripples and trails behind boats and swimming entities. On the audio side, AmbientSounds, Sound Physics Remastered and Presence Footsteps bring realistic ambience, echo and footstep sounds that change depending on where you are and what's around you. Distant Horizons extends the render distance far beyond vanilla limits, so the new biomes and landmarks stay visible on the horizon instead of fading into fog. Finally, the Photon shader ties everything together with realistic lighting, shadows and reflections that make every corner worth a screenshot.
