The Stability Update
This past week has been an experience for me in modpack creation. I had WAY too many mods running and colliding with each other. In addition, no matter how much I tried to optimize the server-side and improve tickrate, it continued to be a laggy mess.
I went back to the drawing board and decided to strip the pack of pointless addons. One big change was swapping out Biomes O' Plenty with Tectonic. Comparing the world gen from before and after, exploration and building flow better to me with Tectonic and Terralith combined. The larger spaces and valleys give the player the ability to find better locations to build but also give the structure generation more space to breathe.
I was able to strip down from 350+ mods to 250 exactly. Performance on Windows and macOS have improved as well (excluding shaders).
Those 100+ mods removed were mainly little changes to vanilla that Quark fulfills the majority of. Plus, once you reach a state of that many mods, you run into compatibility issues that my small brain doesn't have the knowledge to fix (yet).
The core tech mods (excluding CC) are still there and all of the exploration and building mods (excluding Cluttered) have been kept in the pack.
Idle server performance has gradually improved going from 40-70 ms (v1.0.2) to 2-8 ms (v2.0) and major lag spikes have been toned down.
A server pack release is expected later this month once we finish the testing stage. If you'd like to participate in it, please reach out to me via discord (Zearkey) and I can get you whitelisted for the server, which I plan to have released with the modpack in later updates.
