Hey guys. Honestly, everytime I tried hosting a zombie survival server for my friends, we ran into the exact same issues: either the server lagged out completely because of bloated mods, or the zombies were so weak that nobody actually needed to cooperate after day one.
So I put together this dedicated server-side build for Fabric. It’s basically stripped down to the essentials to keep your tick rate steady, but tuned to actually force everyone to work together if you want any chance of keeping a base intact.
Here is basically what's in this version:
- Horde pressure: Zombie spawns are cranked up and the AI is tweaked so they actually push players. Wandering off by yourself is basically a death sentence, so you really have to coordinate as a group.
- Guns and ammo management: Added firearms to deal with large swarms, but kept ammo drops pretty limited. If everyone just sprays mindlessly into crowds, your group will run dry fast.
- Server optimization: This was the main headache I wanted to fix. I spent a bunch of time stripping out unnecessary client junk and configuring performance mods so it runs stable on multiplayer servers without constant TPS drops.
- Actual team play: Because resources are tight and mobs hit hard, it naturally works best if you split roles—like having a couple of people clear with melee while others scavenge loot.
It’s nothing crazy, just a clean and practical server loadout if you want a genuine co-op challenge without destroying your server hardware.
Drop the files in, get your group on, and let me know if you hit any weird config bugs or crashes!
