More room. More adventure.
Bring extra storage wherever you go. Backpacks adds personal, command-issued backpacks to your Paper server—with adjustable sizes, automatic saving, and configurable protection on death.
No client mods. Just install, give, and go.
✨ Built for your adventures
- 9–54 storage slots — choose between one and six rows.
- Automatic saving — contents persist across server restarts.
- Keep backpacks on death — enabled by default and configurable.
- Personal or shareable bags — decide who can open them.
- Permission-controlled commands — choose who can give and use backpacks.
- Custom appearance — edit names, lore, materials, titles, and messages.
- Modern item support — including copper and netherite items on versions that provide them.
- Duplication safeguards — unique identities, one viewer per backpack, and recovery records for interrupted transfers.

⚙️ Make it fit your server
After the first successful startup, edit:
plugins/Backpacks/config.yml
default-rows: 3
minimum-rows: 1
maximum-rows: 6
maximum-per-command: 16
keep-on-death: true
owner-only: true
block-creative: true
blocked-materials: []
message-cooldown-seconds: 5
Storage sizes
Set the default size and allowed row range for newly issued backpacks. Changing these limits never shrinks existing bags or erases their items.
Death protection
With keep-on-death: true, players retain their backpacks after dying. Set it to false for normal item drops.
The world’s keepInventory gamerule still takes priority when enabled.
Sharing and ownership
With owner-only: true, only the owner and players with the bypass permission can open a backpack.
Set it to false to let anyone holding the backpack use it—useful for sharing or trading!
Appearance
Customize item.material, item.name, item.lore, and inventory-title.
Use & color codes and these placeholders:
{owner}— backpack owner{rows}— storage rows{slots}— total slots
Item appearance changes apply to newly issued backpacks.
Restrictions and messages
block-creative— prevent opening backpacks in creative mode.blocked-materials— add item types that players cannot deposit.maximum-per-command— limit how many backpacks a give command can issue.message-cooldown-seconds— control how often help messages appear.message-prefix/messages— customize the chat text.
The built-in restriction on backpacks, bundles, and shulker boxes always applies.
Apply valid changes with /bp reload.
đź’ľ Saved for your next adventure
Each successful transfer is saved immediately. Interrupted transfers have recovery records, and copies of a backpack item reference the same stored inventory rather than duplicating its contents.
Back up the whole Backpacks folder together with player/world data, including secret.key. Safeguards reduce duplication risks, but cannot guarantee protection against every exploit or interaction with other plugins.
🚀 Getting started
- Put the jar in your server’s
