Bedrock Simple Voice
Bedrock Simple Voice brings Simple Voice Chat to Minecraft Bedrock players through a mobile-first browser client.
No client mod or separate app is required on the Bedrock device. Players simply use /voice, scan a QR code or enter a one-time pairing code, allow microphone access and start talking.
No app. No additional Bedrock Simple Voice port. No custom TLS certificate when using the managed relay.

🚀 How it works
- Join the Minecraft server using Bedrock Edition.
- Run
/voice. - Scan the QR code or open voice.byterider.xyz.
- Enter the temporary pairing code.
- Allow microphone access or continue in listen-only mode.
- Start talking with other players using Simple Voice Chat.
After pairing, the browser receives a revocable device session.
This means players normally do not need to enter a new pairing code every time they reconnect.
📱 Designed for mobile
The browser client is designed mobile first and works directly from a modern browser.
The main voice screen keeps only the important controls visible:
- connection status
- currently speaking players
- microphone control
- players
- groups
- settings
More advanced options such as audio devices, diagnostics and individual player volume controls are available in separate views instead of cluttering the main voice screen.
The web client can also be installed as a Progressive Web App (PWA) on supported devices.
✅ Tested platforms
The current Bukkit beta has been tested on:
- Paper
- Purpur
- Spigot
- Folia
Only Minecraft versions and platforms explicitly listed on the individual Modrinth release should be considered tested and supported for that release.
Other platforms
Fabric and Velocity support are still being tested and are not part of this Bukkit beta release.
They may be published as separate versions later.
📦 Requirements
Required
- Java 21
- Simple Voice Chat
- Geyser for Bedrock players
Recommended
- Floodgate
Optional
- PlaceholderAPI
The normal Simple Voice Chat networking requirements still apply.
Bedrock Simple Voice removes the need for an additional Bedrock Simple Voice web port and custom HTTPS setup when using the managed relay. It does not replace the networking requirements of Simple Voice Chat itself.
🔧 Installation
- Install Simple Voice Chat.
- Install Geyser.
- Optionally install Floodgate.
- Download the Bedrock Simple Voice Bukkit JAR.
- Place it inside your server's
pluginsdirectory. - Start the server.
- Join the server and run
/voice.
For normal installations, the generated configuration is ready to use with the managed relay.
You can then customize values such as:
server:
name: "My Minecraft Server"
language: en_US
connection-mode: relay
No additional incoming Bedrock Simple Voice web port is required when using the managed relay.
🌐 Managed relay
New installations use the managed Bedrock Simple Voice relay at:
The Minecraft server establishes an encrypted outbound WebSocket connection to the managed relay.
This means server owners normally do not need to:
- expose an additional BSV web port
- configure a dedicated domain
- configure their own TLS certificate
- operate their own public BSV web server
Data processed by the managed service
The managed service may process:
- a generated server ID
- an authentication credential
- server name
- plugin version
- optionally the server icon
- short-lived pairing codes
- anonymous connection counts
- connection and quality information
- browser control traffic
- live voice packets during an active voice session
- optional web-chat messages when web chat is enabled
Voice packets are forwarded live between participants.
The managed relay does not record or store voice conversations as audio files.
Server owners who do not want to use the managed service can use the self-hosted mode instead.
Privacy Policy Documentation Service Status
🏠 Self-hosting
Bedrock Simple Voice can also be operated without the managed Byterider relay.
Server owners can switch to direct mode and host the browser client themselves.
Example:
server:
connection-mode: direct
public-url: "https://voice.example.com/"
port: 8080
Because browsers require a secure origin for microphone access, direct mode should normally be published through an HTTPS reverse proxy such as:
- Nginx
- Caddy
Self-hosting gives the server operator full control over the public infrastructure.
Full instructions are available in the documentation.
🔐 Pairing and device sessions
Bedrock Simple Voice uses temporary one-time pairing codes instead of requiring players to create separate accounts.
A typical connection works like this:
Minecraft
↓
/voice
↓
Temporary pairing code
↓
Browser
↓
Authorized device session
Pairing codes:
- expire automatically
- can only be used for a short period
- are intended for one-time use
Authorized browser devices can be viewed and revoked again by the player.
The Minecraft server stores device session credentials securely rather than storing the clear session token directly.
🎙️ Voice controls
The browser client supports:
Voice activation
The microphone automatically transmits when the player speaks.
Push-to-talk
Players can choose push-to-talk instead of voice activation.
Listen-only
Players can join voice chat without giving the browser microphone permission.
Player volume
Each participant can be adjusted independently.
Players can:
- change another player's volume
- locally mute players
- reset individual volume settings
👥 Voice groups
Bedrock players can participate in Simple Voice Chat groups through the browser interface.
Depending on the server configuration, players can:
- view their current group
- create groups
- join groups
- leave groups
- see group members
- see active speakers
Group controls are kept separate from the main voice screen to keep the mobile interface simple.
💬 Optional web chat
Server operators can optionally enable the browser web chat.
When enabled, authenticated browser users can interact with supported Minecraft chat directly through the Bedrock Simple Voice interface.
Web chat can be disabled in the configuration:
client:
web-chat-enabled: false
The Bedrock Simple Voice service does not create a permanent web-chat archive.
🛡️ Administration
Bedrock Simple Voice includes administrative controls for server operators.
Depending on permissions, administrators can:
- inspect voice status
- diagnose connections
- inspect authorized device sessions
- revoke device sessions
- mute browser microphones
- remove persistent mutes
- apply voice bans
- remove voice bans
Administrative permissions use the:
bedrocksimplevoice.*
permission namespace.

📊 Status page
Bedrock Simple Voice provides a public service status page:
https://voice.byterider.xyz/status/
It can display anonymous aggregate information such as:
- active servers connected to the managed relay
- connected Bedrock voice users
- reported Java Simple Voice Chat users
- current service health
Individual Minecraft servers, players, UUIDs or voice conversations are not publicly listed.
📈 Optional anonymous ecosystem reporting
Self-hosted installations are not automatically visible to the public Bedrock Simple Voice infrastructure.
Server operators may optionally enable anonymous ecosystem reporting.
It is disabled by default.
status-reporting:
enabled: false
endpoint: "https://voice.byterider.xyz/api/ecosystem/heartbeat"
interval-seconds: 60
If explicitly enabled by the server operator, the report may contain:
- random installation ID
- Bedrock Simple Voice version
- server platform category
- relay mode
- aggregate active server count
- aggregate Bedrock voice-user count
- aggregate Java voice-user count
- timestamp
- random anti-replay nonce
It does not report:
- Minecraft server names
- server domains
- server IP addresses as report payload
- player names
- player UUIDs
- chat messages
- voice audio
- voice contents
- groups
- pairing codes
- device session tokens
This reporting feature is completely optional and can remain disabled.
🔒 Privacy and security
Bedrock Simple Voice is designed around temporary pairing and revocable device access.
Security and privacy features include:
- temporary one-time pairing codes
- revocable browser sessions
- hashed server-side session credentials
- encrypted transport to the managed relay
- no managed-relay voice recording
- no advertising cookies
- no analytics tracking requirement
- optional self-hosting
- optional anonymous status reporting disabled by default
Server operators remain responsible for their own Minecraft server, proxy and infrastructure logging.

📱 Mobile browser limitations
Mobile browsers are subject to operating-system restrictions.
Android and iOS may suspend browser applications when:
- the browser is placed in the background
- the device enters power-saving mode
- the screen is locked
- the operating system decides to suspend the web application
Bedrock Simple Voice includes features such as:
- automatic reconnection
- PWA support
- Wake Lock support where available
- Media Session integration
- recovery after temporary interruptions
However, uninterrupted background microphone capture cannot be guaranteed on every browser or mobile operating system.
For the most reliable experience, keep the browser or installed PWA active while using voice chat.
🧪 Beta
Bedrock Simple Voice is currently distributed as a beta release.
The Bukkit build has been tested on Paper, Purpur, Spigot and Folia, but the project is still undergoing broader testing across:
- different Minecraft versions
- different browsers
- different mobile devices
- different Simple Voice Chat configurations
- large player counts
Please only consider the Minecraft versions and platforms listed on the specific Modrinth version as officially tested for that release.

📦 Voraussetzungen
Erforderlich
- Java 21
- Simple Voice Chat
- Geyser für Bedrock-Spieler
Empfohlen
- Floodgate
Optional
- PlaceholderAPI
🔧 Installation
- Simple Voice Chat installieren.
- Geyser installieren.
- Optional Floodgate installieren.
- Die Bedrock-Simple-Voice-Bukkit-JAR herunterladen.
- Die JAR in den Ordner
pluginslegen.
Beispiel:
server:
name: "Mein Minecraft Server"
language: de_DE
connection-mode: relay
- erzeugte Server-ID
- Authentifizierungsdaten
- Servername
- Pluginversion
- optional Servericon
- kurzlebige Pairing-Codes
- anonyme Verbindungszahlen
- Verbindungs- und Qualitätsinformationen
- Browser-Steuerungsdaten
- Live-Sprachpakete während einer aktiven Voice-Verbindung
- optionale Webchat-Nachrichten
Beispiel:
server:
connection-mode: direct
public-url: "https://voice.example.com/"
port: 8080
https://voice.byterider.xyz/status/
Dort können anonyme Gesamtzahlen angezeigt werden, beispielsweise:
- aktive Server am verwalteten Relay
- verbundene Bedrock-Voice-Nutzer
- gemeldete Java-Simple-Voice-Chat-Nutzer
- aktueller Dienststatus
