Rising Mace
A self-upgrading Mace that levels up purely through PvP kills: no enchanting table, no anvil, no grinding required. Evolve it through six stages, each unlocking stronger enchantments, passive effects, and an active ability.
How it works
- Craft the mace (recipe below) or get one with
/givemace(OP only). - Every player kill with the mace in your main hand upgrades it one stage. Five kills takes it from Coal to Netherite.
- Press F (swap hands) while holding the mace to use its ability. Your cooldown shows in the action bar.
- Passive effects apply while the mace is in either hand.
- The mace can't be enchanted at a table or combined at an anvil. Kills are its only progression path.
- It's unbreakable and, by default, comes back after you die, so your progress is never lost (configurable).
Stages
| Stage | Kills | Enchantments | Passives | Ability (F) | Cooldown |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coal | 0 | Fire Aspect I | None | None | None |
| Copper | 1 | Density I | None | Lightning: arms your next hit within 10s to strike for 6 damage (ignores armor) | 60s |
| Iron | 2 | Density III, Wind Burst I | Speed I | None | None |
| Emerald | 3 | Density III, Wind Burst I | Hero of the Village IV | Resistance IV for 10s | 45s |
| Diamond | 4 | Density IV, Wind Burst I | Speed I, Strength I | Healing burst: Instant Health III, Speed II (20s), Strength III (15s) | 45s |
| Netherite | 5 | Density V, Wind Burst I | Fire Resistance, Speed I, Strength I | Dash forward | 30s |
Netherite stage also gives immunity to fall damage while held in either hand. Enchantments shown are the defaults and can be changed in the config.
Crafting
Coal | Emerald | Copper Ingot
Diamond | Heavy Core | Iron Ingot
| Breeze Rod |
Commands
/givemace [stage]gives you a mace, optionally at a specific stage (coal, copper, iron, emerald, diamond, netherite). OP only.
Configuration
Edit plugins/UpgradingMace/config.yml and restart the server:
keep-mace-on-death:truekeeps the mace with its owner and returns it on respawn (default).falsemakes it drop on the ground like a normal item.use-custom-models:false(default) keeps the vanilla mace look. Custom stage models need a resource pack that isn't released yet, so keep this off for now. Turning it on without the pack shows missing-texture boxes instead of the mace.stages.<stage>.enchants: set the enchantments for each stage using vanilla names and levels, for exampledensity: 3. Stages left out use the defaults shown in the table above.
If you're updating from an older version, delete your old config.yml so the new options are generated.
Notes
- Kills only count against other players, not mobs.
- Progress is stored directly on the item (not per-player), so if it changes hands, its stage goes with it.
- Custom mace textures are coming soon in a separate resource pack. Until it's released, I recommend keeping
use-custom-modelsset tofalse, and maces will look like normal maces. - Requires Paper 26.2.
