ALPHA-2.1-P2
Compatibility
Changes
Prerelease. The second pilot of 2.1, Realism: EXTENDED: a realistic climate for every biome, seasons, altitude and the ground. The save format is the same as 2.0 (format 6), so it's a drop-in upgrade from ALPHA 2.0 or 2.1 Pilot 1. It includes everything in Pilot 1: biome transitions and the °F/°C switch.
A climate for every biome
The seven broad classes (Snowy, Cold, Temperate, Warm, Hot, Nether, End) are gone. Every vanilla biome now has its own climate, modelled on real places:
| Biome | Noon / midnight | Seasons ± | Mid-summer noon | Mid-winter noon |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Desert | 98 / 64 °F | 14 °F | 112 °F | 84 °F |
| Savanna | 92 / 70 °F | 4 °F | 96 °F | 88 °F |
| Jungle | 88 / 74 °F | 2 °F | 90 °F | 86 °F |
| Plains | 72 / 50 °F | 18 °F | 90 °F | 54 °F |
| Taiga | 52 / 32 °F | 24 °F | 76 °F | 28 °F |
| Snowy plains | 28 / 8 °F | 26 °F | 54 °F | 2 °F |
| Ocean | 66 / 60 °F | 10 °F | 76 °F | 56 °F |
- Day and night: clear desert skies let the day heat and the night cool hard; a jungle or the sea barely moves.
- Data-pack biomes get a climate worked out from their Minecraft temperature and rainfall.
- Your own numbers: any biome can be given its own climate under the new
biomes:section.
Seasons
/hvac season
-
The year: each world with a sun has four seasons, 15 Minecraft days each by default (a 60-day year).
-
The curve: temperatures follow a smooth curve, warmest in mid-summer and coldest in mid-winter, with each biome moving by its own amount (the Seasons ± column). Lakes and the sea follow a few days behind.
-
Only temperatures change. Biomes, rain and snow stay as Minecraft makes them, so a savanna never snows.
-
EZvac keeps its own calendar for each world, in
seasons.yml. It counts the world's days, so sleeping moves it on, but setting the clock back (/time set day) never sends the year back to spring. -
Admins can change the season any time:
/hvac season set <spring|summer|autumn|winter> [day];/hvac season next;/hvac season pause/resume.
From the console, add a world's name at the end.

Altitude and underground
- Altitude: the air is 0.1 °F colder for every block above y=64, so about 14 °F colder at y=200. High on mountains, rain turns to snow where Minecraft itself snows.
- Underground: deep down, the air holds the ground's steady temperature, like a real mine: no day/night swing, no seasons, no weather. It sets in 4 blocks below the surface (or sea level, whichever is lower) and is complete at 20, so a tall house or a hill never counts.
- Tuning:
altitude:andunderground:.
On the HUD
- Sidebar: a new line shows the season and its day ("Season: Summer day 3"). It's left out where there are no seasons.
- Tokens and placeholders:
{season}and{season_day}, plus%ezvac_season%and%ezvac_season_day%. /hvac temperatureshows the season and how much it warms or cools the outdoors where you stand.
Upgrading
-
Every outdoor climate changes:
- biomes have their own numbers;
- mountains are colder higher up;
- deep spots are steady;
- the seasons begin on the first day of spring the first time your server starts with this version.
Rooms drift to the new climate gradually.
-
Config:
config.ymlgainsseasons,altitude,undergroundandbiomesautomatically, with a backup of the old file. A HUD sidebar that still has the stock lines gains the season line. A sidebar you changed is left alone; add"<gray>Season: <white>{season} <gray>day {season_day}"to show it. -
Saves: thermostats save their seasonal swing (
outdoorSeasonalF) once they sample their surroundings.
Projects on Modrinth are automatically available through a Maven repository for use with JVM build tools such as Gradle. To learn more about the Modrinth Maven API, click here.
Note: When available, you should use the creator's maven repo instead as it will have transitive dependency information that the Modrinth Maven API does not. You may also end up with duplicate dependencies if you use a mix of Modrinth and non-Modrinth Maven repositories for your dependencies, because the group identifier will be different when served through the Modrinth Maven API.
