MigratingMarkets
MigratingMarkets is a dynamic traveling merchant and market system for Minecraft servers, designed to create a living economy where merchants travel across the world, establish temporary markets, react to player trading, and reward players who protect them along the way.
Instead of keeping merchants permanently in one location, MigratingMarkets turns trading into an exploration-focused experience with configurable caravan routes, dynamic supply and demand, stock management, and merchant reputation.

🐪 Traveling Caravans
MigratingMarkets introduces merchant caravans that physically travel across the world instead of simply teleporting between locations.
Each caravan can have its own:
- Caravan type
- Route
- Waypoints
- Schedule
- Market inventory
- Economy behaviour
- Reputation system
Available caravan types include:
- Blacksmith
- Enchanter
- Exotic Trader
- Fortune Teller - LuckyBlock integration currently in development
Each caravan has its own identity and can provide a completely different trading experience.
🌎 World Movement
Caravans are designed to feel like part of the world rather than static NPCs.
While traveling, caravans:
- Walk between configured waypoints
- Automatically adapt to terrain height
- Avoid spawning underground or floating
- Move through the world instead of teleporting
- Retain normal Villager AI while parked
This makes each market feel like a temporary settlement that naturally appears and moves through the world.
📈 Dynamic Economy
MigratingMarkets features a supply and demand system that reacts to player activity.
The market automatically adjusts prices based on trading activity:
- Buying items increases their price
- Selling items lowers their price
- Prices gradually return toward their normal values
- Stock is replenished every market day
This creates an economy where player actions directly influence future trading opportunities.
No two visits to the same caravan have to provide exactly the same prices.
📦 Stock & Item Levels
Every market item can be assigned a configurable level from 1 to 5.
Higher-level items:
- Restock in smaller quantities
- Sell out faster
- Maintain higher value
Lower-level items:
- Remain more widely available
- Restock more frequently
- Are easier to obtain
This allows server owners to control both item availability and market scarcity.
🛡️ Escort Reputation
Players can build reputation with individual caravans by protecting them during their journey.
Defeating hostile mobs near a moving caravan rewards players with reputation for that specific merchant.
Higher reputation can unlock:
- Better discounts
- Reputation titles
- Improved prices
- Additional benefits when the caravan returns
This gives players a reason to interact with caravans even when they are not actively buying or selling items.
🧭 Exploration System
When a caravan leaves its current market, players are not given its exact coordinates.
Instead, the plugin provides directional hints such as:
"The Blacksmith Caravan has headed east."
Players must then explore the world to discover the caravan's next location.
This makes finding merchants part of the gameplay rather than simply following a waypoint or teleport command.
💾 Persistent World State
MigratingMarkets automatically saves important caravan and economy data.
Persistent data includes:
- Caravan positions
- Caravan routes
- Dynamic prices
- Remaining stock
- Market timers
- Escort reputation
Server restarts do not reset the current state of the markets or economy.
💰 Economy
MigratingMarkets supports multiple economy methods.
Emerald Economy
Emerald trading is the default economy system and requires no additional economy plugin.
Vault Economy
Vault can be used to connect MigratingMarkets to an existing server economy.
This allows the plugin to work with common Vault-compatible economy systems while keeping emerald trading available as a fallback.
⚙️ Configuration
MigratingMarkets is highly configurable through config.yml.
Configure:
- Caravan routes
- Waypoints
- Caravan schedules
- Item pools
- Dynamic pricing
- Stock limits
- Item levels
- Reputation rewards
- Broadcast messages
- Economy provider
- Market behaviour
Create as many unique caravans as your server requires and customize each one independently.
🍀 LuckyBlock Integration
Integration with LuckyBlock is currently in development.
The planned Fortune Caravan will be able to sell Lucky Blocks with different rarities through native API integration.
This will allow LuckyBlock rewards to become part of the traveling merchant economy without requiring manual configuration for every transaction.
🎮 Gameplay Experience
MigratingMarkets is designed around exploration, trading, and player-driven economic activity.
The system focuses on:
- Discovering temporary markets
- Following traveling merchants
- Reacting to changing prices
- Managing limited stock
- Building merchant reputation
- Protecting caravans
- Exploring the world for new trading opportunities
Instead of making the economy feel like a collection of static shops, MigratingMarkets turns trading into an active part of the server world.
🖥️ Player Interaction
Players can interact with caravans directly by right-clicking them to open their current market.
Players can also use commands to locate and browse available markets.
