NovaChat

NovaChat is a chat plugin for Paper 1.21. Channels, private messages, moderation, spam filters, nicknames, even small chat games with money prizes. One jar instead of four, one config file instead of ten, and both English and Russian out of the box.

Requirements

Paper or Purpur 1.21.x and Java 21. Spigot won't work, Folia neither. Optional but nice: LuckPerms, PlaceholderAPI, and Vault with any economy plugin (XConomy or similar).

What it does

Chat

Chat is split into local and global. By default you talk to people around you, and a ! before the message (or /channel) reaches the whole server. Both formats are yours to edit: MiniMessage, hex colors, legacy codes, LuckPerms prefixes, PlaceholderAPI placeholders, everything fits.

Names in chat aren't just text. Hover one and you see the group, balance and warnings. Click it and the client types /msg Name for you.

Private messages

/msg and /reply do what you expect. Social spy lets staff read PMs in real time. Mutes apply to private messages too, so /tempmute really means quiet. All PMs go into SQLite or MySQL, and /msghistory can pull them back up later.

Moderation

/tempmute 1h30m and the player stops talking. /unmute works even for offline players. Warn somebody three times (your number, your rules) and the plugin mutes, kicks or bans them on its own, whatever you picked in the config. On top of that there's a global chat lock, /clearchat and a colored /broadcast. Every message lands in a log file with time, world and channel.

Filters

Spammers hit a cooldown and a per-window message limit. Caps-lock heroes get their text lowered. "heeeeeey" turns into "heey", double spaces vanish, first letters capitalize themselves. The profanity filter runs on regex, so the word list and the replacement are fully yours.

Colors, nicknames and games

Players pick a nick color in a GUI, plain or gradient, and it shows up in chat and in the tab list. /nick sets a custom name, optionally for money, and refuses to copy somebody else's name. Now and then a chat game fires: math, anagram or speed typing, and the winner gets paid through Vault. In chat itself there are tags: [item] flashes your gear, [pos] drops clickable coordinates, [ping] shows your connection, and @Name pings a player with a sound.

For admins

/history shows the recent messages, /topchat ranks the chattiest players. Announcements, join messages and login tips can run on a schedule. /novachat opens a small admin GUI with the two buttons that matter. The whole plugin speaks English and Russian, switched by one config line.

• novachat.bypass skips cooldowns, anti-caps and the chat lock
• novachat.censor.bypass skips the profanity filter
• novachat.economy.bypass skips command prices
• novachat.color.chat and novachat.color.nick allow color codes in chat and nicknames
• novachat.mention allows @Name mentions, novachat.mention.everyone allows @everyone

Install

Drop the jar into plugins, restart the server, edit plugins/NovaChat/config.yml, then /novachat reload. Done.

Heads up

Using EssentialsX? It owns /msg, /reply, /me, /nick, /ignore and /kick too, and only one plugin can hold a command. Remove the duplicates in commands.yml on one side and there will be no surprises.
