Simple CTF
Simple CTF is a lightweight Capture the Flag plugin designed for survival, SMP, and roleplay servers that want a persistent objective instead of a separate minigame. Rather than creating teams, arenas, countdowns, and rounds, Simple CTF turns a flag into a living part of your world.
Players can hunt for the flag, steal it, move it, hide it, protect it, or build entire conflicts around it. The flag exists continuously, creating an ongoing experience that integrates naturally into normal gameplay.
Why Simple CTF?
Most Capture the Flag plugins are designed as minigames:
- Separate arenas
- Temporary matches
- Team-based gameplay
- Round timers
- Scoreboards and lobbies
Simple CTF takes a different approach.
The flag is a physical object that exists in your world at all times. There are no teams, no rounds, and no resets unless you choose to move the flag yourself.
This allows players to:
- Organize their own factions
- Create rivalries naturally
- Build defenses around the flag
- Launch raids to steal it
- Hide it in secret locations
- Track it across the world using special compasses
Whether you're running an SMP, geopolitical server, roleplay server, or a custom adventure experience, Simple CTF gives players a shared objective without changing the way they normally play.
Creating a Flag
Creating a flag only takes a few seconds.
Step 1: Choose an Item
Any item can become a flag:
- Diamonds
- Nether Stars
- Custom items
- Seeds
- Bedrock
- Player Heads
- Modded resource-pack items
- Etc.
The item you choose will be what players fight over.
Step 2: Hold the Item
Place the item in your main hand.
Step 3: Run the Command
/create_flag
The item in your hand is now marked as a flag. The item will have an enchanting glint and you will be given the glowing effect
Step 4: Place the Flag
Place the flag item anywhere in the world.
When placed, the plugin creates a flag marker that players can discover and capture.
Finding the Flag
Players can craft a Flag Compass, a special compass that always points toward the active flag.
The compass automatically updates to track:
- The flag's current location
- The player carrying the flag
- Any new location where the flag is moved
This means the flag can never truly disappear—it can always be tracked.
Flag Compass Recipe

The Flag Compass is the primary tool players use to hunt down the flag. Players can use any banner to craft the Flag Compass
Capturing the Flag
When players locate the flag:
- Find the flag marker.
- Break the flag stand.
- Pick up the flag item.
The player is now the flag carrier.
Because the compass tracks the carrier, everyone else can see where the flag has gone and begin the chase.
Moving the Flag
One of the core features of Simple CTF is that the flag is always mobile.
Players can relocate the flag in several ways:
Place the Flag
Place the flag item somewhere else in the world.
This creates a new flag location and updates every Flag Compass automatically.
Drop the Flag
Throwing the flag on the ground relocates it to that position.
This allows players to:
- Pass the flag to allies
- Hide it temporarily
- Abandon it while escaping
Disconnect While Carrying
If a player logs out while carrying the flag, the flag will remain in the world instead of disappearing with them.
This prevents players from hiding the flag by simply disconnecting.
Flag Tracking
The Flag Compass is always aware of the flag's current state.
It will point to:
| Flag State | Compass Target |
|---|---|
| Placed in world | Flag location |
| Carried by a player | The carrier |
| Dropped on the ground | Dropped flag |
| Moved to a new location | New location |
Players never need to craft a new compass when the flag moves.

Converts the item in your hand into a flag
Frequently Asked Questions

Summary
Simple CTF transforms Capture the Flag from a minigame into a persistent world objective. Create a flag from any item, place it anywhere, and let your players decide what happens next. Whether they defend it, steal it, trade it, or wage wars over it, the story of the flag is created entirely by your community.
