π Introduction
This is a world series built around vanilla-style border survival. You start in a cramped space, gather what you need by your wits, brave the night, push the World Border outward with experience.
π Before Play
This series is not a conventional modpack. Its core consists of a series-exclusive world and core mods that depend on each other to run. After installing the modpack, you must import the series-exclusive world; only then can you play the game normally. For detailed installation instructions, see the FAQ.
This series keeps a vanilla style and has no fixed goals. It came into being because the first player of the series loved the visual effects of the world border and enjoyed playing long-term vanilla survival; it was created by combining the two.
Before you begin, you can skim the series Core Features, Resource Features, Fantasy Features, World-Exclusive Features, World Library, Game Rules, and Helper Mod Keybinds to get a general first impression.
You can also just jump right in and enjoy the unfamiliarity and the fun of figuring things out.
Playing with your favorite resource packs and shader packs is recommended to enhance the world's immersion.
Supported languages: Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Classical Chinese [Recommended], English.
If you switch languages in-game, you must exit and re-enter the save for some text to update correctly.
Note: This English documentation is an AI translation of the Chinese Version, with a human providing the general meaning of each sentence. It may not be 100% accurate, so refer back to the Chinese version whenever something isn't clear. You may visit the Project Website official homepage to switch languages and read either version.

π World Border
The World Border is a vanilla feature that arrived in Minecraft 1.8. The Minecraft Wiki β World Border page has the details.
π₯¬ Border Energy
Every level of Border Energy adds 0.5 blocks to the World Border's radius. Spend experience levels at the Border Upgrade sign to level it up and push the World Border outward.
ποΈ Function Signs
Every world in this series places three function signs at the world spawn point. Walk up and right-click one to trigger its function.
- Border Upgrade β Spends experience levels to raise Border Energy.
- Switch Mode β Flips between Day/Night Mode and Imprisoned Mode. See Fantasy Features for what border modes actually do.
- Summon Chaos Smith β Calls a Chaos Smith to the player's position, only once per game day. Only one can be alive in loaded chunks at a time. See Fantasy Features for more on the Chaos Smith.
Function signs have a hardness of -1 and a blast resistance of 3,600,000.
𧱠Advancements
β This series sets no fixed goals. Advancements are not a quest guide β they exist to showcase features, give text hints, and make the journey feel like an occasion.
β This series does not provide any explicit tutorials.

β¬ Monster Spawners
Breaking a Monster Spawner with a tool enchanted with Silk Touch makes it drop an empty spawner.
Monster Spawner spawn conditions:
Spawn range: 4 blocks horizontally, 1 block vertically, ignoring biomes.
Slime: does not require a Slime Chunk.
Iron Golem: solid blocks must exist below the spawn position.
Animals: a Grass Block must exist below the spawn position.
Aquatic monsters (such as Drowned / Guardian / Elder Guardian): water (source or flowing) must exist within the spawn range.
Aquatic animals (such as Squid / Cod / Salmon / Dolphin): water (source or flowing) must exist within the spawn range, and the water must sit at ocean level (Y 50β63).
Glow Squid: water (source or flowing) must exist within the spawn range, and the water must sit in the cave range (below Y 30).
πΏ Carpet Mod & Addition
β Enabled by default:
- Large barrels: when two barrels are placed back to back, both container spaces can be used at once.

- Renewable coral: use bone meal on coral to grow it to maturity.
- Renewable shulkers: Shulkers respawn in End Cities.

π Border Modes
- Two modes: Imprisoned Mode and Day/Night Mode. The two can be switched between in game.
π΅ Imprisoned Mode
- The default mode.
π Day/Night Mode
- During the day in Day/Night Mode, everything behaves exactly as it does in Imprisoned Mode.
- At night in Day/Night Mode, the monster cap rises to 140, monsters per spawn rises to 10, the chance that monsters spawn wearing armor rises to 30%, and monsters spawn regardless of light level.
- At night in Day/Night Mode, if Border Energy is at level 50 or higher, the space inside the World Border doubles.
π Day/Night Mode - Eternal Night
- One minute before a night in Day/Night Mode ends, an Eternal Night descends if Border Energy has reached level 100.
- Once the Eternal Night descends, Evernight Knights from another realm appear around the world spawn point.
- Under their influence, time freezes at their arrival and the world sinks into an endless thunderstorm.
- Their grip on the world breaks only when all the descending Evernight Knights are defeated.
- The Eternal Night descends again after surviving or sleeping through 0β4 more nights in Day/Night Mode.
In Peaceful Mode an active Eternal Night ends immediately, and no new one will ever begin.
π§ Eternal Rain Night / Eternal Snow Night
- Once the Eternal Night descends, under their influence the World Border can be stained with any of six colors: Pale White, Danger Red, Sun Orange, Bright Gold, Deep Blue, Dark Purple.
- Their influence disrupts the climate, and the stronger it is, the greater the chance that monsters spawn wearing armor.
- When the World Border shows Bright Gold, Sun Orange, or Deep Blue: every biome rains no matter whether it is cold or warm, and the armor chance rises to 40%/50%/60%.
- When the World Border shows Dark Purple, Danger Red, or Pale White: every biome snows no matter whether it is warm or cold, and the armor chance rises to 70%/80%/90%.
- Once every Evernight Knight is defeated, the climate recovers, the World Border's colors fade back, and the color signals when the next Eternal Night will arrive.
The arrival of the next Eternal Night can also be read off the moon phase on the Day/Night clock.
π Evernight Knight
- An Evernight Knight's max health climbs with Border Energy.
- An Evernight Knight regenerates health while no player is nearby.
- When an Evernight Knight takes damage, the world spawns more monsters.
- When a player defeats an Evernight Knight, it drops a treasure chest from a random dimension.
- Because it is a World Bug, every monster wants to eliminate it.
Evernight Knights only appear at random spots inside a square with a 16-block radius centered on the world spawn point, always on the highest exposed ground; in cave-type worlds they never appear above Y 96.
Evernight Knights are extremely dangerous. Adequate defenses and healing supplies are recommended before attempting to duel one.
Evernight Knights never leave their current dimension and never ride vehicles.
π± Evernight Legion
- After surviving 3 Eternal Nights, the next Eternal Night brings an Undead Legion or an Illager Legion.
- After surviving 8 Eternal Nights, the next Eternal Night brings the Eternal Legion.
π Eternal Heart
- When a player defeats a legion boss, it drops an Eternal Heart.
Right-clicking an Eternal Heart destroys it, makes an Eternal Night arrive that same night for certain, and the Evernight Knights will no longer fight as one in the current or next Eternal Night.
Destroying an Eternal Heart during an Eternal Night changes the World Border State to Danger Red, unless the World Border State is already showing Pale White.
An Eternal Heart is treated as a Heart of the Sea.
πΉ Eternal Divine Weapons
- When a player defeats an Evernight Knight, it has a 1% chance to drop the weapon it was holding.
- Holding a Looting weapon in the player's main hand adds 8.5% per level of Looting to that drop chance.
Cursed Eternal Weapons carry Curse of Vanishing and cannot be destroyed by fire, lava, explosions, lightning, or cactus.
A Cursed Eternal Weapon with no extra enchantments can be reverted to a Night Spirit Eternal Weapon.
π Mob Drops
- Mobs defeated by Evernight Knights, Wardens, Elder Guardians, Guardians, and Iron Golems count as player kills.
π World Bugs
- Evernight Knights, Sustainers, and Chaos Smiths are World Bug targets.
- The World Bug target draws the aggro of every monster within 384 blocks horizontally.
- A monster below the World Bug target chases it 16 blocks up.
- A monster above the World Bug target in a Vanilla or Amplified dimension chases it infinitely far down if the World Bug target sits at Y 48 or higher, and only 16 blocks down otherwise.
- A monster above the World Bug target in a Nether dimension chases it infinitely far down if the World Bug target sits at Y 16 or higher, and only 16 blocks down otherwise.
- A monster above the World Bug target in the End, Floating Island, Cave, or Void dimension chases it infinitely far down.
- Monsters other than Evernight Knights and Night Riders do not fight back while chasing the World Bug target.
- If a player is in line of sight, a monster chasing the World Bug target switches to attacking that player first.
Endermen will not switch to attacking a player who is not looking at them.
Evokers chase the World Bug target 384 blocks horizontally and 384 blocks vertically.
A Drowned chasing the World Bug target sees through blocks once it is within a Euclidean distance of 16 blocks.
A Creeper chasing the World Bug target sees through blocks once it is within a Euclidean distance of 8 blocks and 4 blocks vertically, and will ignite itself on the spot if its path is blocked.
Creepers never voluntarily back away from the World Bug target.
π Sustainer
- A Sustainer appears at the world spawn point and keeps Border Energy stable.
- Without a Sustainer near the world spawn point, Border Energy drains continuously.
- If a Sustainer strays too far from the world spawn point, it tries to head back.
- If a Sustainer dies, it appears again at the world spawn point after a while.
- Because it is a World Bug, every monster wants to eliminate it.
When a Chaos Smith is nearby, a Sustainer heals players around it.
Sustainers are baby cats and can be tamed and give gifts like any other cat.
Sustainers never leave their current dimension and never ride vehicles.
π Chaos Smith
- A Chaos Smith is an armorer villager who masters Chaos Star smithing and shares a deep history with the Evernight Knights. Trading with one yields special items β see below.
- Because it is a World Bug, every monster wants to eliminate it.
Chaos Smiths are armorer villagers, and they breed and restock like other villagers.
A Chaos Smith in unloaded chunks does not count as existing.
πͺ΅ Unbreakable Spirit Material
Unbreakable Spirit Material is what the Chaos Smith makes by refining a Chaos Star, which is crafted from a Heart of the Sea, a Nether Star, and an End Crystal. Equipment forged from this material is Unbreakable; see below.
Right-clicking the Border Upgrade sign while holding Unbreakable Spirit Material infuses the material into it, raising Border Energy by a set number of levels.
β¨ Unbreakable Spirit Equipment
Unbreakable Spirit Equipment is forged by the Chaos Smith from Unbreakable Spirit Material, and is Unbreakable.
The following Unbreakable Spirit Equipment pieces grant effects while held in the offhand:
- Chaos Star: Regeneration II
- Spirit Shears: Haste II
- Spirit Brush: Fire Resistance
- Spiritguard Shield: Absorption V
- Spirit Lure Rod: Speed II
- Warped Spirit Lure Rod: Speed II
- Blessing of the Sea: Conduit Power
- Vast Sea Spirit Trident: Dolphin's Grace
- Whirling Spirit Mace: Strength III
- Soaring Spirit Wings: Slow Falling
- Soaring Spirit Wingplate: Slow Falling
- Spirit Wolf Armor: Resistance II; while worn by a Wolf, it also grants Instant Health.
- Spirit Flint and Steel: the holder, plus Evernight Knights, Chaos Smiths, Illagers, Witches, Wandering Traders, and Trader Llamas, glow continuously.
π¦ ? ? ?
- The mysterious chest is forged by the Chaos Smith from a Spirit Emerald. Once placed and opened, it yields one of the following:
- a high chance of a random structure loot chest;
- a moderate chance of a random village loot chest;
- a low chance of a random treasure loot chest.
π Spirit Emerald
A Spirit Emerald is treated as an Emerald.
- Gathering items:
- General Spirit Emerald: hold one in the player's offhand or place it in any Item Frame, and it pulls every item entity inside the 16-block (33x33x33) cube around it into its own position.
- Container Spirit Emerald: if the Item Frame holding it is attached to a Chest, Barrel, or Shulker Box, it only gathers item types found in that container. Attached to an empty container, it gathers nothing at all.
- When several General Spirit Emeralds sit near one item entity, the nearest one takes it.
- When several valid Container Spirit Emeralds sit near one item entity, the item splits into several entities, which they gather equally.
- If General and Container Spirit Emeralds are both in range, the nearest General one takes the item first, then the Container ones share it out equally.
- Converting to building blocks: a Stonecutter converts a Spirit Emerald into a set amount of basic blocks:

π World-Exclusive Features
β The following features belong to one specific world and only work there.
πΈ Guardian - Cherry Mountain (Cherry Valley)
A Chaos Smith exists, and every monster wants to eliminate it. When it dies, Border Energy drains.(replaced by the Sustainer)
π Evernight - Night Garden
- The world runs on a night-only cycle. There is no day.
- This world is locked in Day/Night Mode and cannot be switched out of it.
- Villager schedules are reversed: villagers and the players can only sleep after tick 23000.
A Sustainer exists, and every monster wants to eliminate it. When it dies, Border Energy drains.(now always present)
π₯ Void Portal - Persisting Worlds
- Traveling to a dimension requires building a portal frame from that dimension's theme blocks and activating it with a fire source.
- Unlike a Nether Portal, a Void Portal searches for the nearest portal of the same type within a 256-block radius of the target dimension's world spawn point, regardless of where the portal was entered from. If it finds none, it builds a portal structure near the world spawn point.
- Every dimension in Persisting Worlds keeps its own Border Energy, except the Nether and the End.
- Every dimension in Persisting Worlds has its own Sustainer, except the Nether and the End.
- Evernight Knights only descend into the Overworld or a dimension in Persisting Worlds whose Border Energy has reached level 100, except the Nether and the End.
- If several dimensions have Border Energy at level 100 or more, Evernight Knights descend at random into one of them that has at least one player who is not in Spectator Mode.
- If no dimension meets the requirement, they try the Overworld first; if its Border Energy is below level 100, they do not descend at all.
π§ World Library
A dedicated world save must be used. Creating a world from scratch instead prevents the game from working properly.
Worlds are sorted by type and overall difficulty, hardest first. More stars usually mean a harder survival or more grinding.

π Save Upgrades

β Once a world is released, it usually won't stop being maintained unless an update overhauls Overworld terrain generation β such as the 1.18 update, which broke every world in this series created in a version older than 1.17 β or a special world becomes corrupted due to a compatibility issue.
π Save upgrade: 26.2 -> 26.3
β Always back up your save before upgrading, in case anything goes wrong!
- Persisting Worlds / Persisting Worlds Array Island:

π Notes

Requirements
β This series requires Java 25 or newer.
Most of the mods here are optimization and helper mods, and the game itself is vanilla. If vanilla survival runs smoothly on your setup for that version, this modpack will run smoothly too.
About mods
β Never remove a mod tagged
[Core].
β If you want to add your own mods, note that this can cause compatibility problems: broken features, crashes, or a corrupted save. We recommend prefixing added mod filenames with a tag such as
[custom]so they are easy to replace when the modpack updates.
β Only small decorative, display, helper, or time-saving mods are recommended. (For example: Litematica, MusicNotification, voxy, Advancement Plaques, Auto Fishing, FallingTree, Vein Miner.)
β Mods that change vanilla mechanics, add new items, blocks, or entities, alter terrain generation, or upset combat balance are not recommended.
β Never use an entity-carrying mod (such as CarryOn) to carry this series' special entities (the Sustainer, the Evernight Knight, the Chaos Smith). Parts of their data are known to reset or corrupt when carried, which causes their features to malfunction.
β This series does not offer official support for any unofficial mods you add. If adding them triggers unexpected interactions with this pack, that is on you.
β Note: by the terms of use, a modified copy of this modpack is for your own use only. You may not redistribute the original or modified files in public.
π FAQ
Q: How do I install this series?
A: This walkthrough uses the modpack BorderSurvival 14.0 and the worldpack θΎΉηηε-ζ΅·ε²ζεΊ (Island Village) 26.3-v1 as examples.
Downloads:
- Download the modpack:
BorderSurvival 14.0.mrpack. - Download the worldpack:
θΎΉηηε-ζ΅·ε²ζεΊ (Island Village) 26.3-v1.zip.
Installing the modpack:
- Drag the
BorderSurvival 14.0.mrpackfile into the window of any Minecraft launcher that supports Modrinth modpacks β it picks the file up automatically. - Enter the instance name
BorderSurvival(or any name you like) and confirm. Wait for the installation to finish. - If the installation fails because of a network problem, retry until it succeeds.
Installing the worldpack:
- Use your launcher's import feature, or open the saves directory
.minecraft/versions/BorderSurvival/savesby hand. If there is nosavesdirectory, make a new folder namedsaves. - Move
θΎΉηηε-ζ΅·ε²ζεΊ (Island Village) 26.3-v1.zipinto thesavesdirectory from step 1. - With an archive tool, extract the save folder from inside the worldpack. It is the one named
θΎΉηηε-ζ΅·ε²ζεΊ (Island Village), without the version suffix β extract it into thesavesdirectory from step 1. - Launch the game and choose
Singleplayer. If the worldpack installed correctly, you will see an existing save to enter rather than the screen to create a new world.
Q: How do I update the modpack to get the latest features?
A: Update through the launcher
- Download the new modpack.
- Find the modpack update option in a launcher that supports it, then follow the launcher's steps to import the new modpack file.
B: Update the mods by hand (this only works if the Minecraft version has not changed):
- Use the launcher's mod update feature, or download the
Border Survival Coremod by hand, to bring it up to date for this instance's Minecraft version. - Then update every mod named in the changelog to the listed version. (Starting with 26.3, the changelog spells out every mod version change.)
C: Copy your stuff over and reinstall the new version:
- Download the new modpack and install it with your launcher.
- Copy the following folders from your old game instance into the new one:
resourcepackssavesscreenshotsshaderpacks
Q: How do I repair a damaged function sign?
A: Get a fresh one with this command. You need to be in Creative Mode to place it.
/function border_survival:get_sign
Q: Why does right-clicking a function sign do nothing?
A: The mod isn't loaded. Check that the modpack installed correctly, and that the instance name you are launching is the one you set when you installed the modpack.
Q: Why can't I use commands?
A: Most commands need cheats. Enable them like this:
- Singleplayer: press
ESC-> click Options -> click World Options -> change Allow Commands: OFF to Allow Commands: ON -> click Apply Changes. - Server: run
/op <player name>in the server console to give that player command permissions.
Q: Why is my Border Energy draining?
A: The chunk the Sustainer stands in needs to be loaded, and since Minecraft 1.21.9 there is no world spawn chunk that loads itself.
B: You can use the Carpet mod to add a fake player in the Overworld and TP it somewhere safe, or build a chunk loader from an ender pearl bubble column, so the chunk holding the Sustainer stays loaded.
Q: Why do I die the instant I enter the End?
A: The World Border has not reached the Obsidian Platform, so the portal puts you on the main island, which is far outside the World Border, and you suffocate.
B: The World Border needs to reach at least a 100-block radius before you try the End again.
Q: Why are no monsters spawning?
A: Check whether the game is set to Peaceful Mode. If a world defaults to Peaceful, please report its name so it can be corrected.
B: Monsters do not spawn outside the World Border, and spawning is slow while Border Energy is below level 10.
Q: I built a multi-dimension mob tower in Persisting Worlds using Void Portals and now the server lags badly.
A: Every extra dimension Minecraft loads roughly doubles the tick cost; once mspt passes 50.0 ms/tick, TPS drops and the server starts to lag. This is normal.
B: Before building anything like that: use a fake player to keep several dimensions loaded at once, run the command below, hold TAB to watch TPS/MSPT, then add or remove loaded dimensions based on your CPU, judging by the mspt figure.
/log tps
Q: Why is placing blocks laggy? Why does chunk loading stutter? Why do piston animations stutter?
A: The likely culprit is dynamic lighting. Try turning dynamic lighting off.
Q: How do I set up a server?
- Install the Fabric server for your Minecraft version yourself.
- Install the modpack, then copy every file from the modpack's
modsandconfigdirectories into your server'smodsandconfigfolders. - Extract the worldpack into the server root and rename the world save to
world, or to whateverlevel-namesays inserver.properties. - Delete the
mcwifipnpmod. - Copy
config/carpet/default_carpet.confinto the world save folder (usuallyworld) and rename itcarpet.confto enable thecarpetmod features. - Once the setup is done, start the server.
Q: My server will not start after I overwrite the server's mods with the modpack's.
A: The mcwifipnp mod must be deleted.
Q: None of the Carpet features are enabled on my server.
A: Carpet has to be configured per save:
- Copy
config/carpet/default_carpet.confinto the world save folder (usuallyworld). - Rename the copy to
carpet.conf. - Restart the server (the changes take effect after the restart).
If anything else is unclear, or if the steps above did not solve it, please ask on Issues.
