Wool, moss, and pale moss carpets gain thin overhangs that gently extend over exposed block edges, making them feel less flat without replacing their original top textures.
Different fringe lengths, orientations, and moss arrangements add subtle variation between carpets while keeping everything aligned with Minecraft's original pixel scale.
The result is a small visual upgrade that makes carpets feel more like materials resting on top of blocks rather than completely flat surfaces.

Better Carpets supports Minecraft Java Edition with version-specific downloads.
Wool carpets are supported from Minecraft 1.13 onward.
Moss carpets are supported from Minecraft 1.17 onward.
Pale moss carpets are supported from Minecraft 1.21.4 onward.
The pack works with vanilla Minecraft and does not require OptiFine or any additional mods.
Carpet overhangs use a 20° angle on Minecraft 1.21.6 and newer, while older versions use a compatible 22.5° angle.

The easiest way to install Better Carpets is directly through Modrinth.
If you use the Modrinth App, simply add Better Carpets to your Minecraft instance and Modrinth will handle the installation for you.
When browsing on the Modrinth website, use the available install option to open the project directly in the Modrinth App.
This is the recommended installation method, as it makes selecting and managing the correct resource pack version much easier.
Manual Installation
1. Download the Better Carpets file matching your Minecraft version.
2. Place the downloaded .zip file inside your Minecraft resourcepacks folder.
3. Open Options → Resource Packs in Minecraft.
4. Move Better Carpets to the active resource packs.
5. Enjoy!
If another resource pack changes the same carpets or models, place Better Carpets above it to prioritize Better Carpets's models and textures.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Which carpets does Better Carpets change?
All 16 wool carpet colors are enhanced. Moss carpets are also supported on versions where they exist, with pale moss carpets joining them from Minecraft 1.21.4 onward.
Does Better Carpets replace the original carpet textures?
No. The original top textures remain intact. The pack primarily adds additional model geometry around exposed edges.
Why do different carpets have different edges?
Better Carpets uses several fringe and overhang variants with randomized orientations to add subtle variation between otherwise identical carpets.
Does the randomization rotate the top texture?
No. The main carpet texture keeps its normal orientation while only the additional edge geometry varies.
How does pale moss spreading work?
Pale moss carpets can occasionally extend outward across nearby surfaces on sides without wall growth. Minecraft's normal low and tall pale moss wall growth remains intact.
Does Better Carpets add the flowers and plants from Better Moss?
No. The moss additions in Better Carpets focus specifically on carpet edges and spreading. It does not add the flowers, clovers, sprouts, or other foliage found in Better Moss.
Why are the carpet edges angled?
The overhangs attach near the carpet's top edge and lean slightly outward, helping them look like material naturally hanging over the side of a block rather than vertical strips.
Does Better Carpets require any mods?
No. Better Carpets works with vanilla Minecraft and does not require OptiFine or additional mods.
Can I use Better Carpets together with other resource packs?
Yes. If another resource pack changes the same carpet models or textures, whichever pack has the higher priority will generally override the conflicting assets.
Can I use Better Carpets in a modpack?
Yes. Better Carpets may be included in public and private modpacks. Please link back to the original project rather than redistributing the pack as your own work.
