Alright, hear me out with this one, have you ever looked at one of those carbon fiber stickered Rubik's Cubes and thought:

"wow that is a visually interesting concept but It's hard to imagine anyone using this further than for aesthetic purposes since it is a very intrusive style which would not be practical in any context"

Well that, but applied to Minecraft blocks.

Generally just a visually interesting novelty concept pack, since it can visually be hard to tell apart most blocks.

Most block types use a distinctive pattern depending on if they're ores, bricks, polished blocks etc., and their material is differentiated by the border around the carbon fiber sticker.
