I made this pack because I got tired of squinting at gemstones in the Crystal Hollows and the Glacite Mineshafts. Half the time I couldn't tell where one block ended and the next began, Sapphire and Aquamarine looked the same, and the break animation was basically invisible on glass. So I rebuilt the gems from scratch with mining in mind.
What it does
Every gem looks like a gem. Each block is drawn as a cut stone with a flat top and four lit facets, in its own colour. All twelve are easy to tell apart at a glance, including the ones that usually blend into the rock like Onyx and Opal.
You can see the edges. There's a thin dark seam around every block, so a big wall of Ruby looks like a wall of Ruby blocks, not one giant red blob. Makes it a lot easier to aim at the one you want.
The break animation actually shows up. Gems are rendered as solid blocks instead of glass, which means the crack overlay is proper black on them like it is on stone. And instead of the vanilla cracks, you get a ring that fills around the edge of the block plus a bar that grows across the middle. You can tell how far along a block is from any angle.
It glows in the dark. If you have Continuity (it comes with Fabulously Optimized), every gem gets a lit frame and a soft glow, so you can still see what you're mining in pitch-black tunnels. Without Continuity everything else still works, you just don't get the glow.
Good to know
- Needs Minecraft 26.2 or newer.
- Put the pack above Continuity's built-in "Default Connected Textures" and "Glass Pane Culling Fix" packs in your resource pack list, otherwise you can get small holes in gem panes.
- It changes all stained glass, not just in mining areas. If you're in the hub, buildings with stained glass will look like gems too.
- Everything in the pack (textures, models, icon) was made for this pack.
If something looks off or you've got an idea for it, let me know.
