About
Frangilus Shaders is a cartoon-style shader pack for Iris that keeps the spirit of Minecraft. Instead of chasing photorealism, it gives the game a warmer, livelier mood: orange sunsets, water that really moves, and starry nights.
Each dimension has its own identity:
- the Overworld: bright skies and landscapes swaying in the wind;
- the Nether: fog tinted by each biome, and smoke geysers above the lava lakes;
- the End: a complete space scene, with planet Earth, a galaxy, space shuttles and an astronaut drifting across the sky.
Everything can be tuned in game, from a menu organized by theme and fully translated into English and French.
Highlights
☀️ Lighting and Shadows
- Warm sunlight, and ambient light that follows the color of the sky and the biome.
- Colored block light: soul torches glow blue, redstone glows red, froglights glow in their own color…
- Soft shadows, with optional pixelated shadows for a blockier look.
- Backlit foliage: leaves and grass light up when you look at the sun through them.
- Light rays: beams in the air between trees, and rays around the sun and moon.
- Metal reflections: iron, gold, copper and netherite blocks and items reflect their surroundings, tinted by the metal.
- Optional toon bands for flat, cartoon-style shading.
🌅 Sky, Night and Clouds
- Gradient skies in each biome's colors, with long-lasting orange sunsets and sunrises.
- Bluish nights, with twinkling stars, shooting stars and northern lights in snowy biomes.
- Vanilla-shaped clouds with rounded corners, plus a second layer of smaller clouds higher up.
🌊 Water
- Waves: the surface really rises and falls, with swell and chop.
- Reflections of the scenery and the sun, and refraction that distorts the bottom.
- Depth-based transparency: clear near the shore, darker out at sea.
- Underwater: fog, light shafts and moving light patterns on the bottom.
🌧️ Weather and Plants
- Wet ground and puddles in the rain, with reflections and raindrop ripples.
- Fog that follows rain and thunderstorms, and a golden haze at sunset.
- Grass, flowers, crops, leaves, vines and underwater plants sway in the wind, harder during storms.
🔥 The Nether
- Brighter, with fog tinted by each biome:
- dark red in the Basalt Deltas;
- red and yellow in the Crimson Forest;
- purple in the Warped Forest;
- blue in the Soul Sand Valley.
- Lava and fire take on these colors too: they turn blue in the Soul Sand Valley.
- Geysers: plumes of smoke rise above lava lakes, visible from far away.
🌌 The End, Space Edition
- A space sky, with a nebula, the Milky Way and thousands of stars.
- The real planet Earth, made from NASA imagery: continents, country borders, clouds, and city lights on the night side. It slowly spins.
- A spiral galaxy seen at an angle, like Andromeda.
- Pillar beams: a colored beam rises from each crystal, one color per pillar, and goes out when the crystal is destroyed.
- 3D NASA-style space shuttles flying wide loops in the sky, with engine flames, blinking lights and a trail.
- An astronaut drifting near you and slowly tumbling, helmet lamps on.
🎨 Image
- Bloom, anti-aliasing (TAA) and vignette.
- Color grading: exposure, white balance, vibrance, saturation and contrast.
- Optional cartoon outlines.
Settings
The menu has more than 140 settings, organized into categories: Lighting, Sky, Fog and Weather, Water, Plants and Wind, Dimensions (Nether and End) and Image. Each setting has a tooltip explaining what it does. Almost every effect can be turned off to fit your hardware.
Installation
- Install Fabric and Iris (Sodium recommended).
- Put the
.zipfile into your game'sshaderpacksfolder, without extracting it. - In game: Options → Video Settings → Shader Packs, then select Frangilus Shaders.
Tested with: Minecraft 1.21.4 and Iris 1.8.8.
⚠️ The pack uses Iris-specific features: it does not work with OptiFine.
Performance
The pack is designed to stay light and is developed on an integrated GPU (AMD Radeon 780M). The most expensive effects are only computed where they are visible. If your game lags, lower these first:
- shadow resolution (Lighting → Shadows);
- volumetric light (Lighting → Light Rays);
- the second cloud layer (Sky → Clouds).
