More & Better Shadows

More & Better Shadows is a lightweight Minecraft shader that only adds clean, pixel-style dynamic shadows.

It is designed to stay as close to vanilla as possible while giving the game proper sun and moon shadows.

Features

More & Better Shadows focuses only on shadows and keeps everything else vanilla-like:

• Hard, pixelated / blocky shadows
• Improved and clearer block shadows
• Player, entity, block and object shadows
• Colored shadows from translucent blocks (stained glass, etc.)
• Shadow distortion for better quality near the player
• No shadows on the first-person hand
• Shadows appear on the water surface when above water
• No object shadows visible on the seafloor
• Clean underwater view with soft blue tint
• Extremely lightweight

What it does not include

• No bloom
• No reflections
• No PBR
• No custom sky or atmosphere
• No volumetric lighting
• No heavy post-processing

Compatibility

• Iris (recommended) — 1.16.5 and newer
• OptiFine — most versions from 1.16+
• Works best with Sodium + Iris

Installation

1. Install Iris (or OptiFine)
2. Download the .zip (do not extract it)
3. Place it in your shaderpacks folder
4. Enable it in Options → Video Settings → Shader Packs

Settings

You can adjust these options in the shader menu:

• Shadow map resolution
• Shadow bias
• Shadow distortion strength
• Shadow brightness
