Better Signals

BetterSignals is an add-on mod for Create that enhances railway signaling by introducing logic inspired by the French railway network. Its goal is to offer more realistic line operations while remaining fully compatible with Create's train reservation and movement system.

The mod adds several types of specialized signals designed for specific operational scenarios. The BAL (Automatic Light Block) signaling system reproduces standard indications for "clear track," "caution," and "stop." Companion blocks allow for the display of additional information. It also have a BAPR (Automatic Bloc with Restriced Permission) system with a annoucement signal, usefull for single track lines.

BetterSignals also introduces speed-restriction and turnout signals capable of analyzing multiple routes ahead. These signals distinguish between the main line and the diverging route, displaying the appropriate indications based on the actual status of each branch.

The underlying logic goes beyond simple color changes. Each signal accounts for block occupancy, reservations made by automated trains, the presence of companion units, available routes, and various speed-restriction or caution states. Additionally, BetterSignals improves the visual presentation of signals by using light displays modeled after French signaling standards and employing specific handling for different signaling modes.
