While holding a shovel, the player can order a pokemon to use moves like DIG, magnitude, bulldoze and earthquake to excavate blocks (minerable by shovel) in direction their facing blocks, which will result into gaining experience, and maybe find something

How cutting works
Use an axe with Shift+Right click on a log while having a pokemon in the party who knows CUT, so you can gain exp until you unlock X-scissor and guillotine
Fishing Example
