What are Diamethysts?
Long ago in a not so far away land, an alchemist lived in a tall, stone tower. One day, a hooded stranger visited the alchemist and brought him a curious crystal that the stranger claimed to have found deep underground. The crystal, which appeared to be a mix of amethyst and diamond, seemed to pulse magical energy when brought closer to other valuable elements. The stranger hoped that the alchemist could find a way to replicate the crystalline material, which together they named "Diamethyst", so that it could be used to forge powerful weapons, tools, and armor. So, the alchemist set about the task of recreating the material in large quantities. Part of the process required that the crystal be ground into dust and infused with other materials in a liquid form. Everything was going well, but unfortunately rumors of this new material had started to reach a less than desirable audience. A marauding band of Illagers went looking for the alchemist so they could learn the secrets of the crystals and forge great weapons and armor for themselves. After a long search, they found the tower and had no trouble breaking down the door. The alchemist tried to hide in his tower but he was found by the Illagers and they demanded that he share the secret formula with them or face the consequences. He knew that the Illagers would become unstoppable if they were allowed to make the weapons and armor they craved so dearly, so he changed a few steps in the formula knowing that the results would be deadly. To the dismay of the alchemist, the greed stricken Illagers were too impatient and decided to try to recreate the crystals right there in the tower. He tried to stop them but it was too late! A huge explosion destroyed the alchemist's tower killing everyone inside, and the secret of creating diamethyst crystals was lost. Shards of diamethyst were scattered far and wide by the explosion and were gathered up by any Illager, wandering trader, or villager who happened across them. Some were sold, others were locked away in chests, but wherever they are they may hold the key to unlocking the mystery of the alchemist's original formula, and bring fortune and glory to those willing to experiment!
It is rumored that the alchemist created several powerful artifacts that he hid away before he died. Maybe they are still out there waiting to be discovered?
Start by crafting a diamethyst crystal.

Features:
- A richer crafting experience. No more ingot-on-a-stick shovels or diamond plate armor (that was a thing?). A sword requires a hilt. A hilt requires a leather bound stick. You get the idea.
- Balanced gameplay. No getting the kill-everything-sword on day one!
- Swords, pickaxes, axes, shovels, hoes, armor - all more powerful and have greater durability than their vanilla counterparts.
- Bows that do more damage the longer they are fully drawn back before loosing an arrow.
- Arrows that affect mobs and/or blocks in various ways, and fly further when shot from a diamethyst bow.
- Sickles! A much faster weapon than a clumsy old sword.
- Battle Axes! Much slower than a sword, but they pack a hefty wallop.
- Scimitars that are slightly faster to use than a sword.
- Shields that have varying levels of durability.
- Crossbows that each have varying levels of power/punch/flame. (1.19+)
- Fishing rods that have varying levels of durability, can cast further, and have built in luck and lure. (1.19+)
- Fully configurable weapon, tool, and armor stats.
- Potions! Do or do not drink... there is no try (well, you could try something other than drinking them).
- Use the added power of netherite to make even more powerful weapons, tools, and armor.
- A variety of horse armors to keep your equine babies safe - with extra buffs while you're riding them.
- Budding diamethyst blocks that can (slowly) grow diamethyst clusters for shard harvesting. They can be found in extremely rare geodes (requires Diamethysts 1.6.0+ and Forge for 1.17+), but maybe there is a way they can be created? Experiment and see.
- Shards of broken diamethyst crystals that can be found while exploring.
- Lost artifacts. (happy hunting!)
- Compatibility with Better Combat. (1.18.2 and above)
- Compatibility with Realistic Horse Genetics. (1.19 and above)
- Compatibility with Shield Expansion. (1.19 and above)
Why So Vague?
- I wanted to provide players a chance to figure out how how things work on their own by experimentation - sort of like the alchemist who created the diamethysts.
