Stargate
Travel between dimensions through ancient stargates. Find an address, place it on a gate's control panel, and step into a whole new world.
New in 1.9: Wellspring, a Sift-like dimension
Dial a gate and step into Wellspring, a world inspired by the Sift, the fourth dimension Mojang announced at Minecraft LIVE.
- A world unlike the Overworld. Coral-pink meadows under a turquoise sky, rose and teal meadows, forests of white willows, a pale-teal desert with steel-blue cliffs, and tall rose-coloured mesas.
- Tides instead of plain day and night. The sky drifts from turquoise to peach to deep navy over the course of a day.
- Ichor. Wellspring's lilac rivers, lakes and seas burn you and drain your experience. Bring Fire Resistance, or eat Chorus Fruit for a quick dose of it.
- The blub. A glowing, rabbit-like critter that lives in the meadows and willow forests.
- Five new blocks to collect: Wellspring Soil, Wellspring Stone, Wellspring Shell, Wellspring Willow Leaves and Wellspring Willow Moss.
- Familiar landmarks. Villages, desert pyramids, jungle temples, ancient cities, pillager outposts, woodland mansions and shipwrecks still turn up.
- Easy to spot. Gates that lead to Wellspring glow coral pink.
Wellspring is an unofficial, fan-made take on the Sift. It isn't the dimension Mojang plans to add to Minecraft in 2027.
Dimensional travel
- Address system: every destination has its own stargate address.
- Stargate network: open linked gates between worlds and walk back and forth.
- Route books: keep several addresses in one book and turn the page to dial a different world.
- Destination colours: every gate glows in its destination's colour, with particles that hint at what waits on the other side.
- Chorus Fruit shortcut: eat Chorus Fruit while looking at an active gate up to 32 blocks away to jump straight through it.
Eight kinds of worlds
- Wellspring (new): a Sift-like dimension of coral meadows, white willows and burning ichor.
- Ocean: an endless water world.
- Tropics: a lush tropical paradise.
- Desert: vast dunes and badlands under a scorching sun.
- Floating Islands: islands drifting high in the sky.
- Frozen: a frozen wasteland in perpetual winter.
- Dark: a shadow realm where darkness never lifts.
- Melted: a molten world of lava and volcanic heat.
Gates can also lead to ordinary Overworld- and Nether-style worlds.
Dimensional hazards
Each hostile world has its own danger, and vanilla gear lets you prepare for it:
- Melted: you catch fire. Bring Fire Resistance.
- Dark: darkness closes in. Night Vision keeps it away.
- Frozen: snow slows you down. Leather boots or Frost Walker help.
- Ocean: water pressure slows your mining. Water Breathing protects you; Aqua Affinity and Depth Strider soften it.
- Desert: the daytime heat makes you hungry. Gold armour keeps you cool.
- Wellspring: ichor water burns. Bring Fire Resistance.
Control panel and redstone
- Clear sounds and particles tell you whether dialing worked, and why it didn't.
- Redstone pulses when a gate opens, when a traveller arrives, and when you turn a page.
- A comparator reads the current book page.
- Power a panel with redstone to lock its gate.
- Use a filled map on a panel to mark the gate, or a compass to point back to it.
And more
- Every gate has a supply chest stocked for the world it stands in.
- A full set of advancements, including Galaxy Brain for visiting all eight kinds of world.
How to play
Finding a stargate
Each world has only a couple of naturally generated stargates. Craft a Stargate Eye from an Ender Pearl and a Shulker Shell, throw it like an Eye of Ender, and follow it.
You can also use /locate structure #stargate:stargate.
Dialing
- Find a Stargate Address Book in the loot of ancient cities, desert pyramids, jungle temples or pillager outposts.
- Place the book on the gate's Stargate Control Panel.
- Wait for the gate to open. The first trip to a new world can take a moment while it generates.
Some books hold the address of the world you are in, so you can share it or dial home; others point to a different world.
Game rules
stargate:stargate-debug-address-generation(defaultfalse): control panels dial random valid test addresses instead of reading books. Useful for testing.
/gamerule stargate:stargate-debug-address-generation true
