Did you know that ocelots can't be tamed, but have a trusting mechanic instead? This mod allows something similar for base game spiders, and all that could entail. Turns out they weren't evil, just hungry!
Trusting
Approach a spider with a honey bottle to tempt them. They'll even stop mid-attack if you haven't struck them yet! Then keep feeding their favourite bug-themed treat until hearts pop out.
Trusting spiders do not despawn and will not attack players in darkness, while still retaliating if hurt. This will not have them lose their trust when hurt though.
Husbandry
You cannot breed spiders, trusting or not. However, you can leash them, and also heal any damage they've taken with a piece of raw meat. Rotten meat too.
Mounts
If they seem big enough to hold a player's weight (for a regular sized human player, sorry tiny Origins), or in other words not cave spiders, you can right-click a spider with a saddle to have them wear it.
Yes. You can be your own spider jockey. Spiders are a decently fast one-person mount that can climb up and slide down vertical surfaces, and as such are very suited for exploration.
Be sure to avoid low ceilings though, as spiders do not ultimately care if you crush your skull.
Also, for one's sanity, spiders are immune to fall damage while being ridden by players.
Customization
Configurations
TBD.
Data and resource packs
Items on the tag somewhat-tameable-spiders:spider_food heal trusting spiders. By default, it uses c:foods/raw_meat so it should work out of the game in any modpack that adds food items.
The spider saddle texture, an overlay over the base model, is located in assets/somewhat-tameable-spiders/textures/entity/spider/spider_saddle.png.
Compatibility
- No Hostiles Around Campfire: Trusting spiders do not count as hostile mobs
