VanitasPBR
Full vanilla LabBPR textures for shaders
VanitasPBR uses every feature available using LabPBR: normals, material AO, POM, roughness, F0, HCM/albedo metals, porosity, sub surface scattering and emission to create an enhanced (but not reimagined) vanilla aesthetic perfect for levelling up your screenshots and gameplay.
Why was it made?
I went through a phase of trying every 16x vanilla PBR pack I could find, however I could never find a pack that balanced quality (like VNR (Shoutout to Poundingue the goat!!) with complexity and completeness (like PNaPBR), so I was curious how I would go about making my own pack. With plenty of help from the amazing people of the ShaderLabs Discord server(Especially Null (Author of Shrimple and Textureless) and JoaquiX (Author of AVPBR and https://modrinth.com/resourcepack/prime-resolution-x32)) and the ShaderLabs website, I began hand drawing textures using Microsoft Paint... I then moved to Linux and started using GIMP, where the pack quickly became a solid idea, completing whole biomes and vastly improving my skill and knowledge of the LabPBR system. I then took a break from the pack for a while and started developing my high resolution pack, Praeda using Material Maker, a popular, free and open source node based procedural material creation program. Using the experience of node based texture creation from Praeda, I have created higher quality textures faster than I ever could before for VanitasPBR, so I deemed it high time to release it to Modrinth, not just my own server and the ShaderLabs Discord server.
How can I use it?
LabPBR texture packs are downloaded and applied just like any other resource pack (dragging and dropping the file into the selection screen), however they need a few mods to actually do anything... To start off with, download the mods Sodium and Iris so you can use shaderpacks. To use a shaderpack, download one from modrinth here, or follow the links at the bottom of this page for my personal recommendations of shaders, which will provide the intended visual experience (as those are the packs I test with). You can find tutorials for these steps here and here (If somebody finds a better way to share the videos, please let me know! I know people don't love mediafire, it's just the first thing I could find :/ )
Resources used:
- The ShaderLabs LabPBR material standard is the original document containing information on LabPBR, written by the developers. The best place to find simple explanations of what each colour channel does in both of the textures featuring real examples.
- I used GIMP for my manual texture generation, however similar tools like photoshop and photopea are just as capable (however I recommend photopea as photoshop does not have a normal map generator). GIMP is the best option however as it is free and open source.
- For my procedural textures, I used Material Maker. You can find great tutorials on how to use this program here, however you can ask me for any specific graphs for blocks in my discord server, or in DMs by contacting 4memento_mori7 (make sure to specify you are wanting to see the graphs, I don't usually accept DMs from people I do not know).
- If you do want to use photoshop as your image editor, then you can use Normal Map online to generate the normals for you by providing the height map.
Recommended shaders:
- Kappa/KappaPT is my shader of choice due to the top-tier LabPBR support, and fantastic visuals. Kappa is quite heavy however, and may not run on all systems, however if you are on a more powerful system then I heavily recommend you check out KappaPT on RRe36's website, or her Patreon page. KappaPT uses world-space path-tracing (shadows from blocklight, bounced lighting, etc.), which does vastly improve visual quality, however it is widely regarded to be the heaviest shader of all time (I can barely run it on my 4070...).
- If you cannot run Kappa, then Bliss is your next best bet. Due to it being an edit of chocapic13, bliss has much better performance compared to similar packs, whilst also providing fantastic fantasy visuals and full LabPBR support. This used to be my shader of choice, so most textures will still look great with this pack.
- Sparkle by Kirilpro is my personal favourite for testing my other packs, however it's smoothness handling is different to practically every other shader so it might look a little odd at times.
Credits
Without these people, this pack would not exist!! A massive thank you to those who have helped me over the past 8 months, I appreciate you <3.
- JoaquiX: The person who inspired me to start making PBR textures, and a reliable source of feedback.
- Null: Lovely guy who helped provide criticism and advice on optimal f0 values, tips and tricks on how to make certain effects, etc.
- Balint: Also helped provide realistic f0 values and feedback
- Leed: Taking absolutely wicked screenshots
- Poudingue: Creator of the best vanilla PBR pack oat, VNR
- Patatagod69: Glazes me constantly (also incredible guy)
- Serberus: Came up with the names for VanitasPBR and Praeda
- In general, the members of the ShaderLabs server, who provided feedback and compliments when I needed it
Let me know if I forgot you here, my memory ain't all that...
How to support me:
If you enjoy the pack, let me know! I seriously love seeing people using my texture packs and compliments (and feedback!!!) are always welcome. If you want to support me financially, I will be making a Patreon page where higher resolution versions of one of my other packs, Praeda will be found when it releases (but nothing for now).
