Many many changes and much needed cleanup to finalize the move away from the Aether.

Many renames/changes to blocks and items from the Aether, mixing up material tiers:

  • Aerclouds -> Clouds
  • Icestone -> Vitroulite
  • Holystone -> Floestone
  • Ambroisum -> Cherine
  • Zanite -> Olvite
  • Skyroot -> Aurel
  • Golden oak -> Mother Aurel
  • Blueberry -> Blackcurrant
  • Aechor plant -> Hellenrose
  • Aerbunny -> Corsican Hare

Many removals in favor of brand new unique to PL features to be added to take their place:

  • Quicksoil, Quicksoil glass, and Flutegrass
  • Gravitite
  • Crystal wood, Crystal trees, and white apples
  • Swets and Swet balls
  • Dart Shooters
  • All unobtainable loot weapons, armor, tools, and other equipment

World generation has been tweaked for a final time

  • Paradise is far less hilly, and is designed to be more traversable
  • Some areas are dense and flat, some are broken up into small islands, and there are occasional seas of open space
  • Biomes have been redistributed more evenly
  • The Thicket biome has been reworked to be more traversable, less laggy, and contain a higher amount of Mother Aurel Trees
  • The Tower structure has been retouched

Many visual changes have been made, and anything that became a new item has gotten a new set of textures to give Paradise Lost a unique identity, visually distinct from The Aether in color, and hopefully in overall feel.

A huge amount of cleanup was done in regards to leftover files of all kinds, removing any excess unused or outdated bloat, including textures, models, lang, blockstates, loot, and more. A few missing recipes were added and some recipes have been tweaked to be more consistent with PL or with Minecraft in general.

Paradise Lost also has a new set of advancements, covering a more broad range of goals besides collecting items, and hopefully will help to indicate that certain actions can be done, specifically taming moas, using the feeding trough, and stripping Mother Aurel trees for amber.

Additionally, a few breaking bugs have been fixed, notably crashes related to PL's crops, removing the bugged holiday leaves feature, and simple compatibility with the Better Combat Mod

Our internal library, Incubus Core, has been updated and contains the respective features and fixes in the latest release.

Changes and Fixes

Has the same changes as 2.0.1, with an additional game breaking bug fixed related to seeds and planting

Worldgen

  • Worldgen has been reworked again, remaining similar to 2.0.0, but with less terrain height variation, and proper biome distributions
  • Some biomes have been reworked with new features, and fixes towards features that were missing
  • Caves now carve through the islands
  • At this time thickets are still difficult to traverse, but will be reworked in the next minor release

Crops and Food

  • Swedroot can now be found growing under the islands, grow it on blocks with water above them
  • Amadrys drops more frequently from Honey Nettles found in Highlands Shields
  • Several bugs related to the flax crop and wild flax have been resolved
  • Mushrooms can be found on the surface and underside of islands
  • Aerbunnies reliably drop meat

Misc

  • Moas are now properly ridable and have had a few bugs fixed regarding movement and flying
  • Aechor Plants no longer spawn in unfair places
  • The "I've been falling, for 30 minutes!" advancement now triggers properly
  • BClib and Farmer's Delight conflicts have been resolved
  • Broken recipes for Paradise Lost chests and boats have been fixed

Paradise Losts' world generation is still a work in progress, but please provide feedback to us if particular features are problematic, or you have suggestions to fix them. But most importantly.

Worldgen has been completely overhauled! Terrain should be much more varied now and there should be less ungodly large biomes (probably maybe). This is a wip change so please, tell us your thoughts, we need your feedback!

Known Issues

  • Chest textures are borked
  • Under certain conditions biomes can still be way too large - this is... somewhat unfixable save for adding more biomes
  • Tradewinds are generating inland
  • Insufficient snow.

Changes

  • Added a warning message for server owners about world creation.
  • Wisteria foliage is now bonemeal-able
  • Orange fruit items are now scattered instead of spawned from leaves
  • Modified wisteria & golden oak trunk generation

Advisory: 1.17 ➝ 1.18 World Migration

At this time, migrating worlds will work fine all elements of the mod except for dimension information.

Due to unforeseen issues currently beyond our control, the game is currently unable to migrate the Aether Dimension from the 1.17 format to 1.18s.

Anyone choosing to migrate worlds is strongly encouraged to make a backup and additionally opt to regenerate the dimension due to the worldgen changes made, as even if this component is stabilized, there is no chunk blending in place for world transitions.

(The Aether Dimension can be regenerated by removing the folder <MC_SAVES_FOLDER>/<WORLD_NAME>/dimensions/the_aether)

Efforts are currently ongoing to determine the feasibility of getting this component working, to ensure a smoother migration to 1.18.x. Further news regarding this effort can be found on our discord server.

Swets:

Swets have undergone a large overhaul, and are much more fluid - in more ways than one.

  • White Swets can change color
  • Swets now display their correct color
  • Swets now vary in size
  • Added #the_aether:swets tag
  • Swet revamp (jiggle physics)
  • Swets now suck berries off blueberry bushes.
  • Changed what swets can absorb to a whitelist
  • Added World of Goo advancement for growing a swet considerably
  • Changed jump height and health for swets
  • Swets are content. (They won't fall off the sides of the aether anymore)
  • Right clicking a swet with a spawn egg or swet ball will increase its size
  • Swet balls come in various colors now
  • You can now use leads on swets

Worldgen

Lots of worldgen changes have come to the aether. The aether is now a far cry from homogenous.

  • Water now fades from the bottom of the world in the aether, rather than from y = 0
  • Still water now properly fades in the aether
  • Made aerclouds carver-based
  • Added blocks for the slider dungeon
  • Implemented lots of flora ❤️ (Amadrys, Halophia, Honey Nettle, Giant's lily, weeping cloudbursts, lichen, flowering grass, moss star, and more)
  • Added lakes
  • Boreal wisteria leaves now update dynamically in real time
  • Boreal wisteria items also dynamically update
  • Aerclouds are now nice and wispy
  • Added frosty blocks, courtesy of 24Chrome
  • Added spring water
  • Fixed bug regarding tree leaves decaying
  • New biomes: As stated by our resident biome-guy Azzy:
  • Continental plateau, a cool plains-like biome filled with flowering grass
  • Highlands shield, a wet, cold, rocky woodland bustling with mushrooms and wild flax
  • Autumnal tundra, frozen wastes without much of note... and a sign of something to come
  • Fixed bonemeal behavior on quicksoil and aether grass

Floating Blocks

Behind the scenes, the code for floating blocks has been streamlined, making way for various changes.

  • Floating blocks drop as if broken
  • Fire is no longer floatable
  • Floating TNT may now explode depending on its landing velocity
  • Floating lightning rods may cast a thunderbolt based on weather and velocity upon landing
  • Fast floaters, swet transformations, non-floaters, grows_swets, now tag based.
  • Adds floating block pushers (Like pistons + slime blocks)
  • Adds a helper class to simplify making floating blocks, for addon makers
  • Floating block hitboxes are now centered
  • Floating blocks look a tad nicer
  • Added /gravitate command, to float blocks

  • Servers should be fully functional
  • Removed Geckolib in favor of normal java-based armor models
  • Holystone now drops a cobbled variant that can be used to make tools and in recipes that use cobblestone, instead of regular holystone
  • World gen has been completely revamped:
    • 2 new biomes, the Wisteria Woods and Highlands Thicket, as well as changes to the existing 2 biomes
    • Clouds are rounder and less uniform
    • Crystal trees generate on little islands occasionally, and can grow white apples over time
    • Ore generation has been changed
    • 5 flower types generate in several biomes
    • Golden oak trees generate with more square foliage
    • Wisteria trees are much larger
    • Holystone boulders generate in some biomes
    • Noise settings have been changed to make the islands a bit more round and shapely
  • Gravitite properly levitate blocks, but perform their intended right click action first, if applicable (will strip a log before floating it)
  • Moas have a basic implementation, expect bugs and unfinished features
  • Item groups were merged to take up fewer creative tabs
  • Some blocks that did not break at proper speeds with tools now work properly (quicksoil and aether dirt/grass notably)
  • Many textures have been reworked
