3D Remix
3D Remix is a vanilla-friendly 3D resource pack and a tribute to the Minecraft modding community. It features a handpicked selection of the best 3D models sourced from over ten different creators, combined into one definitive performance-optimized collection.
๐ก Love the Minecraft Trailer style? Use this pack together with Bare Bones 3D Doors. You can experience the ultimate setup by downloading the Vanilla Finest modpack.
Fast, Subtle, and Vanilla-Friendly
After testing almost every 3D resource pack on Modrinth, I noticed that while many had brilliant ideas, not every model was executed with the same level of care. Loading multiple packs together often caused conflicts. The solution? Create a perfect Remix by selecting only the absolute best models from each source.
No pack is perfect! If you have a suggestion or found a bug, come chat with me on Discord.
๐ ๏ธ Selection Criteria
1. Keep the Vanilla Look & Feel
I have upgraded visuals and improved usability while strictly preserving the original game's aesthetic. Texture changes were only applied when absolutely required by the new 3D models.2. Performance is a Priority
I selected simple, subtle 3D versions of vanilla blocks and items. Blocks that generate in large quantities (like leaves or common stone blocks) were intentionally left untouched to prevent severe performance degradation. The pack was fully optimized and tested on a base 1st-gen M1 MacBook Air to ensure a smooth experience on lower-powered systems.3. Selective 3D Conversions Only
Some blocks and items were intentionally left 2Dโnot just for performance, but to stay coherent with vanilla aesthetics. Remaining 2D: Amethyst, Buckets, Cobwebs, Crops & Flowers, Food Items, Glow Lichen, Lily Pads, Potions, Redstone Wire, Sculk Veins, Tools & Utilities, and Vines.4. Minimal Built-in Emissive Textures
I believe glow effects should be handled by Shader Packs or separate Emissive resource packs rather than being baked into the models. I have still included glowing redstone for the 3D Rails as no external pack covered them.๐ก Recommended Setup for Glow Effects:
High-End: Complementary Shaders combined with the Euphoria Patches mod.
Low-End / Performance: Glowing Ores and Blocks resource pack. Requires the Continuity mod.
๐ก๏ธ Handheld Item Changes
Minecraft naturally mixes 2D and 3D items: 2D sprites usually look better flat in Item Frames, while 3D models shine when held in the hand. To balance this, 3D Remix keeps the core vanilla style and introduces only these minimal, high-impact changes:
3D Lanterns
Lanterns are frequently held to light up surroundings but rarely placed in Item Frames since they can already be hung or placed on blocks. The included 3D Lanterns are sourced from Nautilus 3D.๐ Alternative choice: You can also use Better Lanterns by placing it above 3D Remix in your loading order.
Upgraded Torches
Much like lanterns, torches look best in 3D when held. For the best experience, I highly recommend stacking one of these superior packs on top of 3D Remix:
Weskerson's Torches โ A gorgeous, smooth overhaul.
Torches Reimagined โ Immersive, animated medieval blazing torches.
Enhanced Tools & Utilities
Axes, Clocks, Compasses, Fishing Rods, Hoes, Pickaxes, Shears, Shovels, Spears and Swords remain 2D but feature a brilliant 3D depth effect created by GeForceLegend (3D Default), preserving the classic look with modern depth.Separated Bow & Crossbow Arrows
Arrows are now rendered visually in front of the Bow and Crossbow for a more natural, logical appearance when aiming.๐จ Pairs perfectly with:
2D Projectiles mod (for consistent 2D arrows across the world).
Bray's Better Bow & Arrows + Real Arrow Tip mod (for beautiful, varied 3D arrows).
3D Mace Head
The default 2D Mace sprite felt awkward given that the Heavy Core is a 3D block. I integrated the Mace from 3D Default because its head is compact and less distracting on screen, while keeping the original 2D handle intact.Vanilla 2D Trident
Since standard tools are 2D, the vanilla 3D Trident sprite can feel inconsistent.I left it unmodified, but if you prefer a matching 2D look, I recommend:
2D Trident
Combat Amenities 2D Tridents
๐งฑ 3D Block Upgrades
3D Ladders
Vanilla Minecraft's flat, painted-on ladders can break immersion. While many 3D ladder packs are too thick (blocking movement in 1x1 shafts), 3D Remix includes a perfectly balanced version.๐ก Prefer an ultra-thin look? Grab the variant from Vanilla Tweaks
3D Chains & Iron Bars
Chains: Most 3D chains are overly bulky and don't align well with hanging lanterns. The included Nautilus 3D version features clean, thin chains that are fully compatible with copper chain variants.
Iron Bars: Finding good 3D bars is toughโthey need to tile seamlessly, connect nicely at corners, and hold candles properly. The flawless implementation included here is by SkeletonKing.
True 3D Doors & Trapdoors (Standard Copper Grates)
Doors and trapdoors are very common building elements that features see-through holes and desperately needed a proper 3D implementation to upgrade them from their flat, pseudo-3D form.In vanilla Minecraft, they look 3D at first glance, but a closer look reveals that only the front surface is rendered, leaving them with zero depth. However, proper 3D rendering reduces the visible area of the outside world when these blocks are used as windows. For this reason, I intentionally left Copper Grates in their pseudo-3D form, as they are frequently utilized as window elements.
While I am not 100% satisfied with any existing pack and plan to design my own models in the future, the version from 3D Default included here is "good enough" for now.
๐ Mod Compatibility: The included door designs are fully compatible with the Fancy World Animations mod, ensuring smooth opening and closing animations without any glitchy "jumping textures."
3D "Notched" Ores
My choice here is 3D Default, except for Gilded Blackstone, which was sourced from 3D Vanilla. After testing dozens of 3D ore resource packs, I noticed they all follow the same basic concept: minerals protruding out of stone blocks. This often conflicts with neighboring elements in builds and can feel unnatural. The ores in 3D Default take a different approach. Instead of sticking out, they feature small, subtle notches cut into the surface of the stone blocks. This gives a natural hint that the block is unique and contains precious minerals inside.
3D-Cored Dripstones & Sulfur Spikes
Sourced from Nautilus 3D. After evaluating every available dripstone pack (including Vanilla Tweaks), this was the only collection that upgrades the inner core of the dripstones to 3D while preserving their sharp, lethal edges. This maintains perfect parity with the original vanilla art style while ensuring they still look dangerous to fall on.Realistically Thin 3D Rails
This was another situation where there was only one perfect choice. In vanilla Minecraft, the iron rails on the track texture are 2/16th wide, consisting of a lighter line and a darker shadow line to fake depth. Most 3D rail packs turn both lines into 3D. However, I believe those darker lines were only meant to imitate depth in 2D.Because of this, the only 3D rail resource pack I truly enjoy is RAY's 3D Rails, where the rails are kept strictly 1/16th wide, closely resembling their real-world counterparts.
Optimized & Seamless Barrels
Since barrels are placed in large quantities in builds, they require a fast, high-performance 3D version. Finding a clean model was incredibly difficultโfor instance, the cork in the 3D Default pack sticks out so much that it clips right through Item Frames attached to the front. After exhaustive testing, I selected the barrel model from 3D Models (UltiCraft Standalone), which is easily the best option on Modrinth. It features a subtle 3D indent on the back to differentiate it from standard planks, while the front emphasizes the roundness of the lid without expanding beyond the standard block boundaries. Furthermore, its open state does not render internal details; I prefer this clean solution because builders frequently use open barrels as decorative building blocks.
Coherent Bookshelves, Chiseled Bookshelves & Loom
These are vital interior design elements that players frequently mix and match to create varied bookshelf walls. My biggest challenge was integrating them into one seamless, coherent visual style.Bookshelves: I integrated the 3D Variated Bookshelves pack, which introduces a subtle 1/16th-deep indent and gorgeous shelf variations with horizontal books. It is similar to Vanilla Tweaks, but some books hang slightly off the shelves, greatly improving the overall ambiance.
Chiseled Bookshelves: Sourced from Vanilla Tweaks to perfectly match the main shelves.
Looms: Sourced from Nautilus 3D because it features the exact same side/back indents and dark brown texture as the standard bookshelves, making it perfect for mimicking empty shelves.
3D Glass, Tinted Glass & Beacons
Glass Panes and Stained Glass have intentionally not been converted to 3D. Glass panes are naturally flat, so adding a 3D layer is unnecessary. However, standard vanilla glass blocks are strange: despite being translucent, only the front surface renders while the back remains completely invisible. The 3D Glass model fixes this by rendering the interior depth. Note that Stained Glass can become far too dark if both sides are rendered, so due to popular demand, they have been kept in their pseudo-3D form.๐ก Recommended Visual Enhancements:
For the perfect experience, it is highly recommended to use the Continuity mod alongside 3D Glass (as shown in the gallery screenshots).
Pair this with the Clear Glass Connected pack to remove unnecessary glass glare textures.
For a more modern look, try Glamorous Glass, which removes frames entirely and boosts stained glass colors.
3D Flora, Mushrooms & Sugar Cane
Mushrooms & Fungi: Out of many versions, I chose the simple, clean, and flawless Vanilla Tweaks edition.
Sugar Cane: Converted to 3D using the model from 3D Default.
Default 3D Blocks: Bamboo, Cacti, Cake, Dried Kelp, Hay Blocks, Melons, Pumpkins, and Sea Pickles are already 3D in vanilla, but they received an upgraded, polished 3D look from 3D Default.
Most crops, plants, and food blocks were intentionally left 2D to stay coherent with vanilla aesthetics and protect performance.
๐ Vegetation Recommendations:
For the ultimate farming aesthetic, load (Bee's) Fancy Crops below 3D Remix.
To enjoy immersive eating and drinking animations (like drinking from a bottle without eating the container), add Tasty Items to your modlist.
For a bushy leaves effect, use Motschen's Better Leaves (the fastest, most vanilla-accurate option). Alternatively for Bare Bones, my personal favorite is Better Leaves.
Enhanced Utility Blocks
3D Vanilla: Crafting Table, Cartography Table, Fletching Table, Smoker, and TNT.
Nautilus 3D: Beehive, Bee Nest (featuring 5 visual stages showing honey levels), Composters, and Sea Lantern.
Fuspace's Texture Pack: Furnace, Blast Furnace and Crafter.
Dimensionalized 3D Essentials: Stonecutter, Smithing Table, and Cauldron.
3D Default: Enchanting Table, End Portal Frame, Jukebox, Lectern, Note Block, and Respawn Anchor.
Intentionally Left Vanilla: Trial Chambers and Vaults were left unmodified to ensure that item visibility inside them remains perfectly clear and uncompromised.
๐ ๏ธ Additional Suggestions:
If you want 3D Trial Spawners and Vaults that still offer great visibility, add the 3D Trial Chambers pack.
Redstone Components & Animated Pistons
As a general rule, I left redstone wiring and components untouched to protect performance and maintain the classic look (especially since redstone dust is often used decoratively as blood). However, components frequently used as architectural elements have been upgraded:Pistons: Converted to the clean Bedrock Edition design via Vanilla Tweaks, featuring unique sticky-side textures so you can easily identify sticky pistons from any angle.
Lighting & Controls: Redstone Lamps, Copper Bulbs, and Levers have been upgraded with models from 3D Default.
Separate Add-ons for Beds, Boats, Armor Stands
These highly requested features are excluded from the main pack for two reasons: the original assets are copyrighted and I want to offer you multiple options.
You can easily find and stack these alternative packs on top of 3D Remix without any compatibility issues.
๐ Recommended Add-on Packs:
If you want to upgrade these entities, I highly recommend downloading the following external packs and placing them above 3D Remix in your loading order:
Bee's Cozier Beds โ Prettier, snugger, and incredibly cozy beds.
Better Boats โ Adds a realistic hull curve, seats, and proper oars.
Armorstands Reimagined โ Makes armor stands look heavy-duty and sturdy.
Fancy Armor Stand โ An excellent alternative if you prefer stands that look like actual players.
